After receiving remarkable applause in Sydney, Perth and Tokyo for his multi-collaborative project ‘823’ powered by Dropbox, creative director Ta-ku (Reggie Matthews), today announces his cross-continental residency program will arrive at Melbourne’s iconic Lindberg Gallery this December.

From Thursday December 7, the three day affair will showcase work from the multi-talented photographer, producer and visual artist Ta-ku, as part of a public exhibition, alongside hosted photo walks with Ta-ku’s Create & Explore collective, panel discussions with Soulection co-founder and Beats 1 Radio host Joe Kay and more for the now global ‘823’ series. Ta-ku will also be holding an intimate studio session with Melbourne producer Thrupence and a lucky competition winner on Friday, December 8.

Ta-ku says of ‘823‘ Melbourne: “823 has been a such a passion project for me this year – from the event in my hometown of Perth to taking this to Tokyo for the very first time, I’m very grateful that Dropbox are equally excited to bring young creators together and experiment across different mediums and ideas.  For the Melbourne event in particular, I wanted to invite a number of friends & collaborators who traverse being a visual artist and a musician. Joe Kay of Soulection and Melbourne’s Jack Vanzet aka Thrupence are both creators I’ve admired for years – come join us!”

823. THINKING OF TOKYO WITH TA-KU

Deeps De Silva, Head of Marketing for Dropbox across APAC & Japan explains the importance of the collaboration: “Our modern way of working keeps people away from the things that matter and at Dropbox, we want to change this by inspiring creative energy through talented creators like Ta-ku. ‘823’ has been an incredible platform for artists to join forces and tell their story, we’re grateful that Dropbox can play an important part in this.”

Ta-ku first debuted his ‘823′ series at Sydney’s Golden Age Cinema in April 2016 with ‘823 In Residence’. The week-long exhibition saw Ta-ku’s co-run projects Create & Explore and TeamCozy pair up with specially chosen creative guests for panel discussions led by Ta-ku – coinciding with his Songs To Make Up To photo series. The program concluded with guided photo walks courtesy of Create & Explore, taking attendees across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

In March this year, Ta-ku took the program to his hometown launching ‘823 Thinking Of You’ at Perth’s FORM Gallery. From March 23 to March 25, the exhibition showcased a number of photos taken from his multitude of local and international travels, as well as some exquisite supporting visuals from close friend and frequent collaborator Sam Price. More recently, Ta-ku transported his ‘823’ philosophy to Tokyo where ‘Thinking of Tokyo with Ta-ku’ was brought to life at Wag Gallery. Taking place over four days, the interactive photography exhibition hosted visual works by collaborators Sam Price, Maekan and Repeat Pattern.

Inspired by his film photography, ‘823’ shares Ta-ku’s fascination into the analogue processes of film that documents world travels and collaborations with creatives from different mediums. The photos on display act as a journal of his personal experiences.

For those who cannot get along to the events, content produced as part of the residency will also be available to view at dropeverything.com.au.
