On the day the world mourns the second anniversary of the passing of cultural icon, David Bowie, we are delighted to announce the line-up of over 40 local musicians and singers who will come together on 3 February 2018 to celebrate the life and times of this truly awesome performer.

Rehearsals have started in earnest for this spectacular event that will see David Bowie’s memory honoured and his legacy revered for both his long-standing loyal fans and for those yet to discover the depth and breadth of his stellar talent. If you would like to attend a rehearsal or interview any of the participating artists then let us know. The final dress rehearsal is on 31 January at Gate One with a series of individual set rehearsals between now and then.

Challenging to perform
but rewarding

.

MWP2 is shaping up to be even more exciting than the first one!  I’ve built an electrifying line-up of some of Perth’s best musicians and singers, drawn from an eclectic range of local bands to interpret Bowie’s extensive catalogue.

To keep things fresh, we’ve included several highlights from last year and augmented it with a selection of sensational new singers and band members.

What I loved most about last year was the wonderful spirit in which everyone contributed – it was the best sense of community I have experienced in a major live event.  That same spirit is alive and well this year.  How often is it that you get over 40 musicians from all walks of life in the local music scene together on one stage cohesively and affectionately helping each other to be the best they can be? Not often – we are doing Bowie proud!

This event is all about demonstrating our love of Bowie’s work. It is challenging to perform, but so rewarding.  MWP2 will again truly be a celebration of Bowie’s uniqueness and brilliance.

This type of event can easily descend into a poor attempt to impersonate Bowie, but all of the performers are avoiding that through hard work and artistic integrity.

Everything that was exciting and entertaining about last year’s MWP is emerging now in the rehearsals.  My goal is to ensure that every year is fresh and exciting.  I am so proud of all of the performers who are putting in a huge effort to make this gig the event of the year!

Greg Dear, MWP musical director.
