Melbourne’s Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird have released their latest single “Blaze” and is now available to stream/purchase here. This is the first taste from their upcoming debut album ELECTRIC BROWN, out early next year. The synth infused single landed today through Sony Music Entertainment Australia via Double Drummer. To celebrate the release, the band has secured a Melbourne residency every Wednesday night in August at the iconic Evelyn Hotel, showcasing tracks both released and new.
Originally formed by founding members Lachlan Rose and Kieran Christopherson, their name was inspired by the film American Beauty. It encapsulates the essence of the band, that is, their search to find beauty in the mundane. Their latest single “Blaze” was written by Rose more spontaneously than any other song he had written before.

“It just started with this massive synth line. To me, it felt like a circus. I don’t think very visually when I’m writing but there’s something about ‘Blaze’ that feels like a carnival. I try not to get too spiritual with songwriting, but it felt like it just came out, rather than being created by me”. – Lachlan Rose

Along with the rest of their upcoming album, ELECTRIC BROWN, due for release in early ‘18, “Blaze” was recorded and mixed by Matthew Neighbour (Matt Corby, The Avalanches). It is a wild, celebratory synth-based explosion; the kind of song that immediately envelops you in all its uplifting and powerful energy, at once airy and feel-good, challenging yet freeing.
Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird released their first EP in 2015, QUEEN OF HEARTS, which was followed shortly after by the MELBOURNE BITTER EP last year, via Double Drummer. The lead single of the latter was one of triple j Unearthed’s most played tracks of 2016.
