unveil new single “AIRBORNE”

ahead of headline shows in SYDNEY & MELBOURNE

Today, Cut Copy unveil their new single “Airborne“, the band’s first taste of new music in four years. As premiered on triple j’s Breakfast, “Airborne“ is the band’s debut offering as recent signees to Astralwerks/EMI.

“Airborne“ is equal parts guitar jangle, celestial synths and bottom-heavy bassline. The infectious track shifts gears multiple times, balancing images of chaos (“jagged teeth made of glass, rising up”) with the resolute chorus: “That don’t stop me”. The song, produced by Ben Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective) offers an early glimpse of the new material the ARIA winners & GRAMMY nominated Australian band has been recording in studios around the world. Yesterday, the band AirDropped an advance sneak peek of “Airborne“ in select locations worldwide – including Flinders Street steps in Melbourne and Martin Place Fountain in Sydney – giving nearby iPhone users an early listen to the track.

This month, Cut Copy will play two massive headline shows in Melbourne (sold out) and Sydney. Special guest Harvey Sutherland will appear in both cities, bringing his renowned futurist disco and relentless energy to the night. Fresh from their European tour, Melbourne-based Sutherland will be performing with his band Bermuda, prior to Cut Copy taking the stage.

In the past decade and a half, Cut Copy has gone from pioneering Melbourne’s cult indie/electronic scene to being a Class A international act. Having toured the world multiple times, they have secured a cult worldwide following. Led by vocalist and keyboardist Dan Whitford, Cut Copy’s live show is a festival must-see, slated at prime slots across prestigious festivals including Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, Lollapalooza, Primavera, Pitchfork and Summer Sonic.

Cut Copy’s infectious live show is matched only by the beautiful complexity of their songs. Layered swaths of melody, sections with dissonance and nods to many genres are packaged into timeless pop songs. The result is large groups of people gathering together in an explosion of joy. Their diverse catalogue, which includes four full-length albums and numerous remixes and singles, has been nominated for multiple awards. In Ghost Colours received nominations for the ARIA Awards’ Best Dance/Electronic Album and Album of the Year at the J Awards, while Zonoscope was awarded Best Dance Release at the ARIA Awards and nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the Grammy Awards.
