DJs And Final Bands Announced

Alright sports fans, the countdown to Boogie’s Tallarook takeover is officially ON! With just one month to til Our Friend’s Farm lights up with the most electrifying line-up you’ll see this side of Lightening Ridge, we’ve got a few more tasty treats to fuel your fire this Easter weekend!

Comin’ in hot from Nashville, Tennessee, JUSTIN & THE COSMICS (USA) will bring their whiskey-soaked, punk-inspired rock and roll down to the farm. If you want to see a real punk band, not some indie band that calls themselves that because they use fuzz pedals and wear Converse, this the band for you. There’s the Clash, the Modern Lovers, and even that original punk, Elvis, in their sound. Authentic and badass. You’d be bonkers to miss.

Speaking of knock-out bands from Nashville, husband and wife duo THE SMOKING FLOWERS (USA) will be in the midst their Australian tour with fellow Boogie 12 teammates, DEER TICK when they grace us with their poetic perfection. Looking for some sweet country music with a bit of a punk-rock kick? Lock your eyes and ears on The Smoking Flowers.

Rising from the ashes of beloved indie-rock outfit Leader Cheetah, THE SAN SEBASTIAN is two brothers, reunited and re-inspired to knock your socks off. Visceral, magical, multi-layered indie-rock with a cinematic twist. Hold onto your seat people, the San Sebastian are about to take off.

SOUTHERN RIVER BAND are a rock and roll dance party from the wrong side of the tracks.  Influenced by the purest rock and roll bands of the 70’s and 80’s, from Bob Seger to Van Halen. These fellas mix it all up with a dash of Boogie Woogie and a sprinkle of Country, or as an anonymous someone once said “Just sounds like a goddamn Saturday night”. Good times are guaranteed.

As always, the Boogie Truck DJs will make sure those hips don’t stop swingin’ between bands over at the mainstage, while our Hillbilly stage DJs commandeer the journey into the wee hours. Your 2018 flight crew includes…

DAVID SMILEY. Blowing minds at Meredith last year with his wild sounds, young David will back up at the most coveted DJ slot west of Seymour – Boogie! David plays a wide range of genres from disco & house to afro & 80’s Japanese synth pop. He’s not afraid of mixing classic big tunes into weird gems and rare groove. Who knows where this hard working moustacheod tour guide will take us?!

GLENNY G. GG didn’t make a name for himself as one part of Triple R’s Infamous Best Of The Brat. He has however made a name for himself as the third greatest Boogie Stage Manager of all time. Glenny g has forced himself onto line-ups all over the world playing party tunes or bizarre sets made up of only showtunes from South Korea to South Melbourne, New York to Newtown and Glen Waverley to The Reeperbahn.

EMMA PEEL. Emma has been spinning records for over 15 years and collecting them for even longer. She’s been a fixture on PBS FM for a decade with her show, Switched On, and played the whole gamut of Melbourne festivals – Falls Festival, Fringe Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, MIFF, and more. Emma’s been invited to spin at jazz clubs in France and Italy and at various joints across the USA. With a love of Latin soul and a soft spot for soul-jazz, Emma’s record stash is pretty darn wonderful and spans these genres and many others including Brazilian funk and samba, European beat and garage, rhythm and blues and jazz-funk. You can expect to hear this and more when she takes to the turntables at Boogie 2018.

DJ ANDEE FROST. Rejoice Boogie sinners, the big guy is back (again! and again!). From the ghettos of Lilydale, The self styled king of handbag gospel has come down from the mountaintop to cleanse our battered ears at the Hillbilly Mardi Gras. What Boogie Sunday would be complete without the big hatted emperor of anthemic vinyl beats sanctifying all before him! Who needs nangs and poppers when Andee Frost is on da decks? Stick people come down from your trees and worship at the alter of Frostington!!!  One more time with or without feeling! The grand Poo-bar of Melbourne late night clubland is back, and he’s brasher, bolder and bigger than ever!

DJ MIND LEAF. As one half of Melbourne based duo Sleep D and record label Butter Sessions, Maryouss AKA DJ Mind Leaf has submerged himself in the Australian music landscape for the past 8 years producing, performing, DJing and releasing music from local artists, whilst making strong links with international artists. In the last four years he has jumped from end to end of the musical spectrum, expanding his selections with music from his Middle Eastern heritage, to new wave, dub, jazz and everything in between. This need for diversity has lead him to co-found new label Research Records.

BT. BT’S Country Moanings will get your day rolling and make that sunshine sweeter, busting out the hit picks on 45s of early country and blues, sixties and seventies superstars, and the rock and roll tunes that ease the mind into the Boogie day ahead. From good ol’ Hank to Sir Douglas, Dylan to The Band, Muddy to early Stones and every West Coast tune that matters.

FAUX PAS NOIR. At the heart of any decadent gathering of gorgeous souls there always lies one common thread: that of an inherent desire to shake what your mama gave you. With FAUX PAS NOIR, it goes without saying that with the first badonk of the 808 and tss of the divine high hat, you will be giving your mama a run for her money and probably looking more chic than ever before. Fresh off the ss/2097 runway, FAUX PAS NOIR will take you on an impeccably styled journey of booty bopping, hip popping (slightly shocking) diva, delight, and deca-dance!!!

DAVID HEARD. Born and raised on acid country, David Heard has been hardworking and dedicated to the PBS airwaves for many years – bringing listeners the best in local and far flung country and roots every Thursdayafternoon. A veteran of Boogie and the second oldest man on site (after Larry), he can be found doing marathon sessions in the clubhouse, asleep in the tipi, or up on the truck sharing his wealth of country wisdom and grace with our ears and minds.

DJ GINGER LIGHT. This sassy little lady is all about good times and great tunes. The 60s Glamazon is passionate about 50s and 60s Blues, RnB, Soul, Rock’n’Roll Roll, Girl Groups and more. Ginger’s DJ Set at Boogie is dedicated to her lover the late Rosco (The Electric) Mudcat. Ole mudcat played the first tunes at the first boogie ever. Rosco and Gingers love affair began with their love for music, records and a good time. The music lives on since his passing and the tunes during this very magical Boogie set is dedicated to the great man and life of our mate The Electric Mudcat.

LARRY KRONICK JR. This old geezer somehow performed at, and/or survived 25 years of the Big Day Out Lilypad, a dozen Fuji Rock Festivals, a lot of Boogies, as well as dj-ing a wedding in Tassie once. Pretty clapped out really but somehow manages to pulls some magick out of his arse once a year at far away land called Hillbilly.

So there you have it, folks. The full low-down on the Boogie 12 hoedown.

Boogie 12: one big stage, one wacky clubhouse, one hillbilly late night disco, one mysterious shearing shed, many bars, scrumptious and nourishing food outlets, Boogie bucks, and a bevy of like-minded humans getting involved in the party of their lives!  A real mixed bag. United in awesomeness alongside elevated punters under the Boogie banner. Prep your consciousness for a weekend of weird and wonderful extracurricular activities.
