It’s already been a huge week for DZ Deathrays! Along with the duo taking out #67 in the triple j Hottest 100 for ‘Shred For Summer’ and this morning’s announcement that their third album Bloody Lovely is this week’s Feature Album on triple j, I OH YOU and DZ Deathrays are thrilled to announce the official opening of the Bloody Lovely Pop-Up Bars to celebrate the release of the record this Friday 2 February via I OH YOU.

Opening for one night only at Brisbane’s Greaser Bar on Friday 2, Sydney’s Ramblin’ Rascal Tavern on Saturday 3 and Melbourne’s The Beaufort on Sunday 4 February, the Bloody Lovely Pop-Up Bars are the coming-to-life of the imaginary bar represented on the album cover and offer a chance for fans to fully immerse themselves in the world of Bloody Lovely. Free entry, walk-ups only, first in best dressed.

“We have always wanted to open our own bar at some point and I guess this is a good way to test the waters and also launch the new record with a bang,” explains Shane Parsons (guitar/vocals). “In the studio, we were trying to get that feeling of a fun dive bar with our music playing in the background while people shoot pool and talk shit.”

DZ Deathrays (Shane Parsons and Simon Ridley) will be at each of the bars hanging out, playing a DJ set and generally ensuring that Bloody Lovely is as divey and debaucherous as they envisaged it to be! Along with getting to hang out with the band, fans will have access to exclusive merchandise, including a limited edition translucent pink pressing of Bloody Lovely on vinyl, available only at the Pop-Up bars!

To commemorate the album and opening of the Bloody Lovely Pop-Up Bars, DZ and Young Henrys have again teamed up and will be launching a re-brew of their collaborative Pills ‘N’ Thrills Pilsner at the Bloody Lovely Pop-Up Bars. Andy Miller of Young Henrys explains the collaboration and relaunch:

“We rarely re-brew a limited release beer. This one was so popular and the boys have been such huge supporters of ours, that it felt like the perfect opportunity to give the people what they want and re-release the DZ Deathrays pilsner to celebrate the release of Bloody Lovely!”

“Getting to release our own beer a couple of years ago along with a big help from the Young Henrys team was so awesome!”, explains Simon Ridley (drums). “It’s a session Pilsner and an Aussie take on a traditional Czech recipe, that reminded us of our time spent touring in Europe blended with a bit of flavour from home. We are so glad we get to do a re-brew of the beer and have people hooking in to it at the album launch Pop-Up bar.”

The DZ Deathrays Pills ‘N’ Thrills Pilsner will first be pouring at the Bloody Lovely Pop-Up Bars. Following the events, there will be a handful of kegs pouring at your favourite local pubs and bars around the country, including the Young Henrys Brewery Tasting Bar in Newtown.

Bloody Lovely is the band’s expanded universe: the perfect amalgamation of all that has come before it, but kicking in the afterburners, and shooting into the stratosphere as we all hold on for dear life. You’d be a bloody fool to miss the Bloody Lovely Pop-Up Bars this weekend!
