Everybody knows that GRENADIERS are the real deal. The Adelaide rock warriors have returned, with acerbic new single and video ‘Suburban Life’, and a high volume east coast tour.  

Premiered on radio by triple j‘s Home & Hosed last week, ‘Suburban Life’ is a driving justification of why Australian rock music is firmly back on the up and up. Taken from new recordings for what will become a third album from the three-piece, everything about this track is BIG. Driving guitars, relentless pace, that shout-along refrain. Frontman Jesse Coulter’s whiskey and smokes growl is more incisive than ever. ‘Suburban Life’ rolls on, tongue firmly in cheek.

The track comes with a speedy new video that has today been premiered by The Music. Grenadiers are known for putting out some entertaining and hard-hitting clips, and this one for ‘Suburban Life’ is no different. The 90’s inspired lo-fi video was filmed at Gillman Speedway in the badlands of suburban Adelaide.

For over seven years, Grenadiers punk/rock straddling fury has seen them rise above the tangle of middle-of-the-road domestic rock. The trio emerged victorious to claim triple j feature album status for their acclaimed 2nd LP ‘Summer’ last year, touring nationally with punk legends Millencolin and Shihad and decamping to the UK to dominate at The Great Escape. Individually, Jesse, Phil and Jimmy are rooted deep within the history and mythology of rock, punk and hardcore. This common fanatical adoration is the foundation-stone of their relationship. Combined, they become a fearsome, relentless beast that sounds like its feasted on the souls of Queens of the Stone Age, The Bronx and Bad Religion, at midnight in an abandoned desert truck stop. With these awesome powers they write songs that dissect the absurdity of the everyday. And that is refreshing as hell.

About their latest jam, ‘Suburban Life’, frontman Jesse has said there was a fast turn around between choosing it as a single, shooting the clip, and getting it out into the world. 

“For the video, a guy called Dave from the Speedway was kind enough lend us the location if we covered the power bill.” He said, “We shot the thing over the space of a few hours, there’s nothing around there except the city’s main rubbish tip and a bunch of metalworks factories so it’s a bit like something from the old game Full Throttle. We got some cars kicking up some dust while we played, taking in the rich aroma of festering rubbish from the nearby tip, petrol and a whole lot of bug spray (you wouldn’t believe how many insects you get under the lights at a place like that).”

Always eager to abandon the well-beaten touring path, Grenadiers have plied their rock wares in such unconventional locations as Griffith, Dunsborough and Arnhem Land. They’re as comfortable in a far-flung RSL as in a dive bar or on a festival stage.
