PNAU play surprise first show in five years to re-launch The Cambridge

One of the most iconic live venues in Australia has been reborn with a spectacular surprise show. Last night Newcastle’s beloved Cambo (The Cambridge) hosted a free show featuring electronic music royalty Pnau – the group’s first Australian live show in five years.

Proving the perfect act to salute the room and new direction for the venue, Pnau took to the stage playing songs from their forthcoming album including latest single ‘Chameleon’ as well as classics like ‘Wild Strawberries’ and ‘Embrace’.

When asked about playing at The Cambridge Pnau’s Nick Littlemore said “To be perfectly honest, Newcastle has always kind of been our spiritual home so it seems to be the perfect place to re-birth this entity. We’re also blessed to have such an amazing performer join us (Shakira Marshall)”

With recent sold out shows from Tash Sultana, The Living End, Client Liaison, Peking Duk and more, the new-look ‘Cambo’ has opened the door for international touring acts to make Newcastle another stop on their schedule. An upgrade of amenities and increased capacity in the main room to 800 has further cemented the venue as Newcastle’s home of live music and one of the best in the country. An intimate side room featuring a 200 capacity live space has also opened to showcase local talent.

The team behind the venue are focused on providing a platform for up and coming artists. A Rock n Roll Thursday Night Live event launches next Thursday to unearth and support new local talent. Their passion for bringing the best touring bands to Newcastle goes hand in hand with promoting the venue’s strong local legacy with the aim of providing a place for local talent to gain experience & provide a solid platform where they can pick up support slots or even tours.

Also due for completion in April is the venue’s very own late night rock’n’roll Japanese diner curated by the team at Nagisa on Honeysuckle & the crew at The Cambo.

With a star-swollen list of upcoming gigs, featuring Birds of Tokyo, Client Liaison, Urthboy, British India and Wolfmother, The Cambo is the home of live music in Newcastle. CLICK HERE for full gig listings.
