So the guys from the band Alae in New Zealand have a new single out called “Things Change” (check it out at the bottom of the page). In discussion with them, they had some tracks from other NZ artists they were digging and they wanted to share some views of their music with us. That’s what you call sharing the love. We thought it would be a good idea if we shared them with you. Can’t have these New Zealanders think they have the love-sharing market cornered. So that is what we are doing below. Lots of love sharing. Music is good too. Enjoy.

Nadia has just released a beautiful new album called ‘Preservation’. The albums debut single, ‘Richard’, embodies her songwriting sensibilities in regards to structure and style. Whilst offering a candid, yet insightful sense of lyricism. In my opinion, Nadia is somewhere between Joni Mitchell and Sun kil moon. Also, she recently opened for Ryan Adams at his Auckland show.

This Auckland based band has now been and gone. But! Their content is still floating around on the net. I thought their album ‘New Gold Mountain’ (while it’s fantastic in its own right), was going to be the precurser to something seriously incredible. However, it turns out it was the precurser to and end… This new found freedom gave ‘Oscar Dowling’ the bands singer / guitarist and ‘Dave Weir’ the bands bassist time to work on their own individual content. They’ve both recently released New albums, and they’re both great. If you like that Mac Demarco, Beatles thing listen to ‘Dave Weir’ ‘Food for Thought’. If you like the idea of listening to a slightly sarcastic, Jeff Buckley meets Thom Yorke type confessional. Then listen to ‘Oscar Dowling’ ‘ Free and Easy’.

We toured around the North Island opening for Hollie during her NZ Album release tour. Also, we opened for her in Sydney during her AUS tour. Hollie is a powerhouse vocalist with a seriously tight band. The new album ‘Water or Gold’ features some of NZ’s finest muso’s and really lets them, as well as Hollie, show off their chops. It’s epic, it’s mo town-esk, it’s Joss Stone with more to talk about. Its music for people who want to listen to music.

Listen to the album ‘A little night music’. When I first heard this guy, he blew me away. He’s got an awesome sense of individuality that shines through. A beautifully low voice, with a tone reminiscent of Matt Berninger (The National). Listen to the track titled ‘Time will tell’, It’s beautiful and sets a haunting, yet enticing mood from the second you press play.

I really like these guys. Their Album ‘Osiris’ is pretty cool, and well worth a listen. They first caught my attention when they won the critics choice award at the Vodafone New Zealand Music awards. The song that caught my attention most was ‘Take control’. Accompanied by a buzzy music video, it’s well worth a watch.
