ALPHA WOLF – “Mono” (Album Review) – 12/07/2017

“Heavy and dissonant. Some may find it honest, others may find it crude.” – Alpha Wolf.

The five-piece deathcore outfit Alpha Wolf has been going from strength-to-strength after years of finding their place in the metal music scene. Newest band member Aiden Holmes (Vocalist) recently chatted with AMNplify about the success of their recent single #104 and supporting Thy Art Is Murder on a national tour (you can check out the interview here).

Alpha Wolf’s debut album Mono has all the makings of hardcore, heavy metal music but with lyrics that give every track emotional substance and create an obvious theme of traumatic tragedy and loss of love.

.

“We are focusing entirely on the new music.” – Aiden Holmes (Alpha Wolf vocalist).

.

You can hear that the new album (pre-orders available here) has more technical musicality and structure than previous EPs Origin (2014) and Dark Soul (2015). ‘Golden Fate; Gut Ache’ is easily the climax song of the album offering a hard punch of metal sounds combined with heavy lyrics, tied together with a more melodic chorus.Shinobi Naku’ has a calmer temperant than the rest of the album, but still harbours a theme of deep despair with lyrics like.

.

“Please forget me… I will live alone and die!”

.

Alpha Wolf is definitely releasing their best music to date with album Mono, but extreme deathcore sounds mixed with heavily emotional lyrics may not be everyone’s thing. A mesh between Bring Me The Horizon and Amity Affliction but with more lyrical vulnerability; Alpha Wolf’s album Mono has more depth than most metal music – definitely a band to watch! The debut album is due for release July 14th.
