IN STEREO are an all Australian outfit consisting of members Jakob Delgado, Ethan Karpathy and Chris Lanzon. Ethan and Chris were both contestants on The Voice Kids Australia in 2014 which gained both artists recognition and saw them both tour with The Voice Kids Australia 2015 concert. Shortly after this IN STEREO formed and auditioned for season seven of The X Factor Australia making it to the top 12 which meant they were mentored by Aussie music icon Guy Sebastian.
Having already gained notoriety, contacts, and experience in the music industry through working on the two big talent shows on Australian television it was no surprise that these guys have no intention of slowing down. Between 2016 and 2017 the IN STEREO guys have released three EPs, their recent Day In, Day Out has some seriously catchy tracks ending 2017 on a high note.
They took the time to answer a few questions for AMNplify about their unique journey in the music industry, and what is in the works for the new year…
How would you describe your journey in the music industry so far, and where do you want to go from here with your music?
It’s been great! We’ve learnt so much over the few years we’ve been in it and it’s been an exciting growing experience. From here, we would love for our music to reach the whole entire world and it’s always been one of our dreams to play shows all over the world. That’s definitely the goal.
When did you know you wanted to make music and perform as your career?
I don’t think there was a point in time where either one of us didn’t want to be a musician/performer. Music is something we’ve always felt a connection to since day one. We’re super grateful to have the opportunity to make our dreams a reality.
What artists have been your musical influences through life?
Every artist that has ever existed is an influence to us as we’re all the same, all share the same vision to create music for the world to listen to, and for people to connect to. Because we share that same goal, we admire everyone, it’s impossible to pick individuals.
How would you describe your sound, and why is it unique from other artist’s sound?
Our sound has definitely been growing with us over the last couple of years as we get older and mature, so it’s hard to specifically describe our sound. It’s unique because of our own personal touches and concepts we put into it, things that would only come from us. Such as our voices and the way we express our feelings and experiences through music.
What is next for 2018?
2018 is going to be a massive year for us. We want to release new music and videos all through the year. We’ve worked so hard on our upcoming projects and we are beyond excited to share it with everyone.
Are there any artist’s or musicians that you have been so impacted by that it changed your view on life or mentality?
I feel like an artist who has the creative ability to make whatever they want to make and express themselves in a way that can positively influence others are a huge inspiration. Ed Sheeran comes to mind, he’s world famous yet remains very humble and giving of himself, and he’s fully in control of the music he creates.
If you weren’t working in the music industry, what else do you think you would be doing with your life right now?
Music is everything to us, it’s hard to imagine what we’d do without it. I’m sure we would be doing something in the creative industry to have a positive impact on people’s lives through the things we create. That’s what we love to do.
What’s one song fans might be surprised you really like?
Tough to think of a specific song, but we really enjoy hip-hop music which might come as a surprise to some.
Do you have one performance that stands out so far as being your favourite, or most memorable?
We’ve been fortunate to play a bunch of shows over the last couple of years, and each show has its own memorable moments that make it special. One stands out as a favourite would have to be when we performed at the Surfers Paradise Live festival last year right on the beach front, that was crazy.
Lastly, just for fun – If you had to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Probably Nando’s – does that count? Haha!
Totally counts! Thanks for the chat.
