Sydney grunge larrikins The Dead Love are back! Hot on the heels of a massive 2017, the band is ready to introduce their band new summer anthem ‘Ordinary.’ ‘Ordinary’ is the follow up to the band’s break out single ‘Sugarcoat’ which garnered strong support from triple j and Spotify and won The Dead Love a legion of new fans. ‘Sugarcoat’ is also a confirmed banger in the infamous Dead Love live show.
2017 saw The Dead Love play some massive shows including Snowtunes Festival (sharing the stage with bands DZ Deathrays,Gang Of Youths, Skeggs) and special guest support slots with Grinspoon, Wolf & Cub, You Am I, Dune Rats, British India, Waax, Hockey Dad and more. The band then rounded out the year with their own ‘Sugarcoat’ headline east coast run in November.
With new single ‘Ordinary’, The Dead Love have come up with the goods once again. The song is choc full of big riffs and those signature hooks that will have you shouting the chorus for days.

How would you describe the band’s time in the music industry so far?
CLINT – Like an ice cream on a hot summers afternoon…That you drop in dog shit! But then someone nice buys you a replacement, you have another bite, it’s fantastic…But then you get food poisoning – then you feel better a week later and buy another ice cream hahaha – Let’s just say up and down, we’ve had some amazing moments and some shitters. We want to own the ice cream truck!

When did you know you wanted to make music and perform as your career?
STEVIE – Ever since I can remember, it was pretty evident early on. I remember in primary school the teacher had everyone come up and say what they wanted to do for the rest of their lives. Most kids wanted to be a fireman or something but I just said a musician – I was jamming with my dad from super young.

If you had to sum up your SUGARCOAT tour experience in one sentence?
MILES – YEAH MAD BRA!

Ordinary is your latest release, what was the creative process for this one and what does it mean to the band?
CLINT – Stevie had that riff and melody and from there it just kind of came together really naturally + we say nah nah nah nah nah a lot.

You will be touring around Aus again this March, what kind of antics can fans expect at one of your shows?
STEVIE – Clint never wears shoes, even in interviews…Miles just goes M.I.A always at go time haha, we don’t know where but it’s every time.

Who have been your musical influences or artists you have admired growing up?
BAND – All those 90s grunge and power-pop and punk bands had a huge influence on all of us – from Nirvana to Helmet and Greenday.

Are there any artists or musicians that you have been so impacted by that it changed your view on life or mentality toward music?
CLINT – Biffy Clyro – Vertigo of Bliss was a full circle moment for me, epic pop melodies, quirky time sigs and massive riffs! What a fucking album!

How do you feel your sound has developed over your time releasing music?
CLINT – Getting back to basics.

What performance in your career so far has been the most memorable, or surreal and why?
BAND – Sold out Enmore Theatre (Note: We didn’t sell it out but still).

What’s one song fans might be surprised you really like?
MILES – “Take Me To The Pilot” by Elton John.

If you could choose only one muso, artist or band to collaborate with that is no longer alive who would you choose?
STEVIE – Prince.

And, if you had to listen to one song on repeat the rest of your life what song and why?
MILES – Celine Dion – ‘My Heart Will Go On’, and on, and on….
