Ayla – Shallow End (Single Review)

“Just wait it out, I’ll come around.”

Shallow End is the new single by Brisbane singer/songwriter, Ayla. Collaborating and co-writing with Glenn Sarangapany (Birds of Tokyo) the track premiered on Triple J’s Good Nights on Monday as a gear up to its release on Friday, marking itself as the first official track of Ayla’s forthcoming EP and of an older and wiser sound from the songwriter. 2017 has been pretty big for Ayla so far with the news of a new EP due for release in mid 2017, the new partnership with label Caroline Australia and Select Music and the announcement of an East Coast tour.

Ayla is no amateur when it comes to the music scene, despite her short time in the industry. 2014 saw the release of Ayla’s single Wish I Was which gained major attention on Australian and European radio, coming in at number 15 on Triple J’s most played list and earning herself a distribution deal with EGO Records in Italy. The unique tone and incredible vocal ability attracted EDM remix artists and DJ’s which led to the remix of Wish I Was, gaining popularity quickly around the globe and resulting in millions of Spotify streams.

So, where does that leave us with Shallow End? Shallow End is a real conversation starting pop-rock three and a half minute track, multi layered in such a standard but unique way. The electric guitar led melody is thick in soothing goodness, standing on its own but blending perfectly with the strong bassline. This accompanies the incredible sound of Ayla’s voice, her distinctive tone that wraps around every single lyric in a warm embrace. Shallow End is the perfect single for Ayla to present her growth as an artist to fans and the music world!

It’s safe to say there’s big things in store for Ayla in 2017!
