It’s not often you get the chance to relive iconic live tunes from the 90’s. I had the privilege of experiencing that moment on the Wednesday the 31st of January at The Star Event Centre. Headliners Boyz ll Men and TLC took me back to my high school days with their energetic dance moves and outfits that used to make Video Hits as epic as it was each and every Saturday morning.

Australian DJ Yo! Mafia started off the night with some old school vibes as she mixed all the right RnB and hip hop beats from the 90’s and early 00’s. With a backdrop of ongoing clips from the past couple of decades including memorable moments from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Audience members couldn’t help but groove in their seats as they prepared for what was to come next.

American RnB trio, Boyz II Men finally walked on stage with style, dressed in white from head to toe. It was hard to ignore the excitement from every single woman standing in the crowd praising these 90’s icons. Since their first album Cooleyhighharmony, released in 1991, Boyz II Men have continuously produced perfect harmonies and passionate lyrics that even 20-30 years later are unforgettable.

Starting off their set with Motown Philly and On Bended Knee the crowd began to stand between each narrow aisle. The trio performed an insane cover of Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz, although it wasn’t until their hit track I’ll Make Love To You where every single audience member stood with them arms swaying, singing the famous lyrics. To top it off, band members Wayna Morris, Nathan Morris and Shawn Stockman handed out long stemmed roses to the screaming women beneath their feet. They then finished off their set with hit single End Of The Road.

After a half an hour intermission, TLC walked on stage with their four back up dancers. I couldn’t take my eyes off their perfectly synchronised cheesy dance moves which Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas joined in through majority of their songs. It was the collaboration of their 90’s inspired outfits including fishnet stockings and TLC branded leather pants that took us back in time.

The duo performed a list of hit songs including their most popular; Unpretty, Waterfalls and No Scrubs. The band included a slideshow in honour of Lisa Lopes highlighting their journey and long lasting friendship through hard times. Watkins and Thomas continuously encouraged the crowd to break the rules and dance out of their seats until the end of the night. It truly was a night that brought back memories allowing us to experience the 90’s once again.
