I felt very in my element walking into Yah Yah’s Bar on Friday night as the bright coloured bar scene is second nature to me. The venue gave off a rock n’ roll music video vibe with its bold interior and décor. As I walked up to the band room, people waiting in the crowd were already dancing with drinks in their hands having a good time. As the audience started the build up, Brightness hit the stage with his guitar and a three people band.

Not knowing who Brightness was prior to his show, I was optimistic in hearing him perform as I listened to a few of his songs beforehand and thoroughly enjoyed them. Celebrating the launch of his new EP Teething, his first song picked up the audience straight away as the jumpy tune had everyone swaying in sync with the song. His vocals were very smooth and pleasing to listen to along with the acoustics of the instruments shooting through the venue. The electric guitarist was making quite an impression with his attitude as his outfit to his sipping out of a wine glass created much amusement.

As Brightness led his band into the second song, the female bass guitarist was helping the musician with background vocals and then had a few opportunities to sing by herself. Her voice was quite similar to Brightness and the two harmonised sweetly together. The song was giving off major 90’s vibes as the instrumental of the song seemed quite nostalgic to listen to. The chemistry between Brightness and the band during he first two songs were electric as you could tell they were more than just band mates.

The stage lighting drifted through several colours creating a different atmosphere as Brightness led into the next few songs. These tracks were slower and introduced many different sounds within the instrumentals. Brightness’s acoustics became more prominent as I really began to focus on his incredible vocal ability. The indie styled voice made me float into my own world as he had the audience captivated with his soft melodies. The moody dark room perfectly showcased the atmosphere of the artist’s songs.

As Brightness was almost at a close with his show, the next few songs changed pace once again showcasing diversity in his music. His last song slightly reminded me of country music as the way he played his guitar gave off a western feel. As the show had concluded, the stage went pitch black and it’s as if the crowd was brought back to reality. The lighting throughout the show truly complimented the talented musicians vocals as he conveyed a story that was satisfying to follow. If you’re looking for a vibe that’s perfect for cruising with the top down, having the wind blow through your hair on a perfect summers day, Brightness showcases a soothing sound that I believe anyone could easily get used to.
