EVERYTHING IN QUOTES “DARK”

(EP Review)

Future Classic signee, Christopher Port has dropped his new EP Everything In Quotes “DARK”. While the EP is very cohesive and laid back, the entirety of it feels a little too safe with not a lot that grabs your attention.

The tracks on here definitely live up to the title of the EP with their dark but mellow tone, though it seems that Port relies too heavily on drum loops that barely seem to develop or take you anywhere else. Though the opening track, Nobody Chose You, is an exception of this, where there’s a break at about two thirds of the way through and Port switches it up to make the song faster and catchier. The best part of the production were the pitch altered vocals on every track, adding a layer that filled the gaps. Except even with the vocals filling voids in the tracks here, it was hard to find anything that really stuck with you after the EP was finished. While the sort of white noise and crackling that played underneath the songs gave them a bit more of a personality, it wasn’t enough to leave too much of an impression.

There’s still a lot of potential to be seen here though, you can understand the tone and the vibe that Port is trying to deliver on this EP. This melodic and bleak groove Electronic music, definitely giving out a clear path as to the sound we can expect to develop as Port progresses. Uppers is certainly a great finishing track as it begins to feel as though we’re getting a culmination of what came before it.

While Christopher Port’s second EP was a bit of a let down, Everything in Quotes “DARK” still gives promise for progress and growth.
