Who’s ready for the duet of the decade?

Global superstars Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé have teamed up to recreate Ed’s smash hit Perfect with Perfect Duet by making it even more perfect, literally. With both artists being the biggest within their own fields, who knew that such a power duet would bless our ears. Ed has been killing the pop game in 2017 with the release of his third studio album ÷, spawning worldwide chart toppers such as Shape of You, Castle on the Hill and Galway Girl. Beyoncé on the other hand has spent 2017 giving birth to the most famous twins on this earth today, as well as easing back into the music scene by teaming up with J Balvin and Willy William for the Mi Gente remix.

The original song itself is one hundred per cent that typical Ed song you grow to obsess over. Although the instrumental may be quite slow and tame, the soft guitar strums throughout the track give it that simplicity that always allows Ed’s vocals and lyrics to shine. The melody stays quite consistent from start to finish, as there aren’t really any tricks of the trade to jack it up as it disregards any stunts. It’s smooth tempo will have you focused the entire listen as its calmness makes it extremely easy to get lost within its feel good, mesmerising acoustics.

The lyrics in the track are both beautiful and effortless. Perfect Duet focuses on themes of love, passion and eternity. Ed sings about a childhood sweetheart that has progressed into the love of his life. He doesn’t take anything for granted as he promises not to ever let go of this love. Beyoncé shares Ed’s feelings as she emphasises the depth of their connection. She sings about their future with their own home and children, as well as their incredibly solid love for one another. The chemistry between both artists is undeniable and their vocal ranges from gentle to powerhouse mould together like magic. The lyrics sang not only sound good together, but more importantly create a sense of realism for the listener.

Who ever thought that two of the most renowned artists of this decade would come together and create this little piece of wonderful? Although the track is quite raw and stripped back which suites Ed to a tee, it showcases Beyoncé’s potential in not having to pull out all her usual extremes to still remain great. It puts both artists in a new perspective as they have proven that the diversity in their talent can match all odds. As Ed is currently in the peak of his third studio album and Beyoncé is on her way back to claim her throne as the queen of pop, this duet has just pushed their careers in the right direction by showing the world that such lustre can be found in something incredibly simple.
