FRENZAL RHOMB – Hi-Vis High Tea (Album Review) – 03/05/17

Frenzal Rhomb is one of those bands that has been around for a long time and most people fall into one of three categories – those that love them, hate them or those that still ask the question – “who the f*%k are they?”

Frenzy Rhomb

For those people however, that have followed Frenzal from the early days expect certain things from their albums; that they are offensive, funny songs filled with those punk sounds that they have grown to love and should never be played around parents, children, or Kyle & Jackie O.

It’s always a worry when band of this calibre releases a new album. The thought is automatically “will it be as good as their old stuff or have they gone all soft-cock on me?”

From the first song, Classic Pervert to C*#T Act to I’m Shelving Stacks (As I’m Stacking Shelves); to School Reunion; to a song about Bunbury called Bunbury (somewhere that people have to see to understand), there are plenty of offensive songs that will make the old-school Frenzal fan wet their pants in excitement.

The drums are on point and show that Gordy Forman has definitely recovered from a certain incident at Capitol in Perth that he would probably rather forget. The wailing guitars are all there and sounding just as good as ever and Jason Whalley’s lyrics and vocals are just as crude as they should be.

The real test will be how these songs come across live. After all, there is no recording in the world that can recreate the feeling of being hit in the face by Whalley’s dreads or listening to Lindsay (The Doctor) McDowens’s banter on stage.

Of course, it doesn’t matter what anyone says about the latest album because every Frenzal fan out there knows that their opinion is the correct one and will not be afraid to tell the lads what they think when they tour over June/July. The only thing that needs to be said about the new album is to play it loud, play it often and do your best to offend your neighbours and just remember this – “If you disagree, I’ll meet you at the Food Court.”

8/10
