Halsey – Eyes Closed (Single Review)

Halsey, Halsey, Halsey…. What can I say you have done it again! The Queen of Indie Pop is back with another new release off her upcoming third album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom which is set to release 2nd June. With the release of Now Or Never, and now the release of her second single off the new album titled Eyes Closed.

When I first initially listened to Eyes Closed By Halsey, I was left speechless as I saw a comeback of Halsey’ original rawness when it came to her songwriting. Similar to her track written on the Room 93 album titled Ghost. Eyes Closed is a raw but lyrically beautiful track as it is highly emotional and vulnerable. The track Eyes Closed for me personally hit home, as the song is about the ending of a relationship as the individual is left with the heartache and having to moving on. As her moving on involves interacting and seeing other people but no matter what she does or no matter how hard she tries to distract herself her ex is always on her mind, it always goes right back to him. Overall proving the strength and pull love has on a person. Eyes Closed is revealing her overall pain, insecurities and vulnerability through her lyrics written. The song Eyes Closed has given me flashbacks of Halsey’ older music off the album Room 93 especially the track titled Ghost as that particular song shook me to the very core as the vulnerability, emotion really came through the raw lyrics of the song. Eyes Closed however left me overall shaken.

“Would’ve gave it all for you, cared for you, so tell me where I went wrong?”

In the introduction of Eyes Closed, there is a slow strum of the guitar with a quick transition to Halsey’ voice creating a quite intense and overwhelming trance for the listener. However, the lyrics “I, I know where to lay, I know what to say, it’s all the same….”  were sung in a quite monotone and husky voice as the listeners can tell that she is in pain and is distraught by the situation. The track has a quite hard-hitting melody that has a slight RNB vibe to it as the melody of the song was collaborated with The Weeknd and produced by Cashmere Cat. The track Eyes Closed all throughout the duration of the song has a quick to slow and vice versa tune and melody transitions, matching the emotional highs and lows involved in a relationship and the roller coaster ride that entails with that.

Overall, HalseyEyes Closed is for sure a banger of a track as it is a lyrically beautiful song but is also a highly emotional and vulnerable song which listeners are able to relate too. The rawness of the lyrics are quite overwhelming leaving myself as an emotional wreck.

HalseyEyes Closed is out now this song is a must to listen too so check it out. Halsey’ third release album titled Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is set to release 2 June and is available for pre- order via Halsey’ official website.
