Huntly – Songs in Your Name (EP Review)

Less than one year after the release of their debut album, Huntly’s sophomore EP does not disappoint fans of the Melbourne trio. Songs in Your Name has a dark and mellow flow, with an eclectic sound and sparse beats familiar to Huntly’s style. Songs in Your Name features three tracks and a remix, including previously released singles Please and Tempelhof perfectly bookending the EP.

Please, released in late 2016, received local and international praise. The track introduces the collection, marrying mournful lyrics with a quirky, offbeat melody. Kate’s Bed flows naturally into a much more chill vibe. And Tempelhof is a stand out, with a rich and sensual sound. Huntly’s trademark dreamy lyricism, synths and dynamic beats carry throughout this EP.

I couldn’t describe this EP better than Huntly themselves: “We fell in love, we got rejected and we rode down airstrips together listening to Jon Hopkins. Get sad, write a banger. The cycle continues. Songs in Your Name is a dedication – to our friends who are our lovers, who let us go and stayed up all night with us in a big soft bed with the fan up so high it almost spun right off and decapitated us. These Songs are in Your Name, we are the voice.”

This new EP showcases Huntly’s vibe through evocative dance music and vivid lyrics. Songs in Your Name is now available digitally. The trio will be touring with Songs in Your Name throughout late February and early March in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra. (For gig details check out their social medias, linked below.)
