Interview with
PANDORA
The Ultimate Wild Tour
Up until today, Pandora has released 12 albums, 25 hit singles, selling more than 6 million records, receiving 19 gold and platinum awards, recording 13 music videos and performed more than 1000 times all over the world. This makes Pandora a “pioneer of her genre” and one of Sweden’s most successful and famous artists, in her own country as well as abroad. Pandora was eurodance already before the genre got its name.

What was it like growing up and living in Sweden?
I grew up in the country side with my mum and dad, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Dad worked at an iron factory and my mum was a housewife. Dad had a guitar that none of us kids was allowed to use. I played it every day when he was at work…
What is the music scene like there?
The past years the Swedish music scene has seen a lot of Star Djs like Swedish House Maffia, Avicii. Or artists like Rebecca and Fiona, Sara Larsson etc.
You first started performing on stage in rock bands and covering acoustic songs. What inspired you to make the transition to dance/techno music?
Yes, my musical influences were Bonnie Rait, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens etc. Very different from dance. When I got the question to demo the ”Pandora” dance songs I’d never heard that kind of music style before so it took some time to understand it. By the time I manage to make my own touch to it which also made me love the style much more.
.
.
You have been in the music industry a long time, what is it that motivates you to continue making music?
My audience (people) motivates me and performing in different ways. Sometimes with a band, sometimes with a string orchestra, or Dj and my violinist or sometimes just me and my guitar. Or like this summer when I hooked up with my original rapper /MC Matthews Green for a Swedish Eurodance tour. It was the first time since the end of the nineties.
You are heading to perform in Australia for The Ultimate Wild Tour what kind of set have you got planned?
I’m planning to perform the songs that were hits from the album BLUE, I released back then in Australia. A little bit, Smile n shine of course. It’s only a 20 min performance so at least 2-3 more songs would fit. Maybe ”On a night like this”, the 2nd version I recorded after Kylie Minogue released it. Long story and big news in the daily British paper The Sun back then.
Will you have new music to showcase or will you be putting new spins on any well-known tracks?
I have re-recorded Trust Me with the original sounds so that might give a new spin in Australia!
You have released 12 studio albums to date and 25 hit singles worldwide – congrats! Do you have another in the works?
Thank you! Yes, I have recorded my first self-written album. It’s under my real name Anne Li and its inspired from my first musical influences like I mentioned above, and Mumford and Sons. Total opposite style than Pandora. This will be released as a side project. No date yet.

.
What has it been like collaborating with the other DJs on the lineup for the tour? (I recently had a chat with DJ Sammy and he is so excited)
It’s the first time I’m on this tour so don’t know about the other DJ’s yet. But I just finished a massive tour in Sweden with 22 of the biggest eurodance acts from around the world. Awesome fun! I’ll expect the same fun in Australia!
