This NGV Friday was the combination of the Dior Exhibition, DJ Matt Doll and the Headline act, Oliva McCarthy, or better known as JOY.

With drums and a guitarist on stage with her as she maned the keyboard at the front, JOY. did old tracks and covers as well as giving us a taste of what’s to come from her later this year. The passionate, but laid-back and soothing tone of the entire set was perfect for the expo, as most people were sitting down, JOY.’s songs couldn’t of worked better for the event.

With footage of past Dior fashion shows playing above her, JOY. smashed out her earlier tracks like Stone and About Us, as well as many never before heard stand outs that came with the her set. There was a brilliant guitar solo that came from Dan Merch on one song that got a well deserved crowd cheer, as well as some very impressive drum work from Jack Robert that received the same praise.

JOY. threw some great covers at us as well, doing a version of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams that smoothly transitioned into Stone. Later on in the set we heard her do a popular cover she released a few years back, Drake’s Marvin’s Room. Two down to earth tracks with a JOY. twist that fitted the show perfectly.

To end her set JOY. played her incredibly catchy new single, Smoke Too Much which even got the people sitting down moving, especially when the chorus came into full swing. After the final song was played, the Brisbane singer/songwriter/producer left us with a brilliant performance that both impressed and satisfied.
