KHALID, the 19-year-old singer/songwriter from El Paso, Texas, has just wrapped up his very first tour of Australia as part of his American Teen Tour. The melodious artist played in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in support of his debut record, American Teen.

If you managed to find a park in what was a sticky situation on the night, you would have been thrilled to get the night started. As the regular parking was inactive on the night, patrons had to park quite away with the venue offering free shuttle buses back to the venue. Masses of lines left right and centre, punters were more than eager to get the wagon rolling and to step outside onto Eaton Hills field.

But with much delight punters watched Khalid’s hypnotic soulfulness delivered sevenfold when he stepped on stage. Captivating the room from the first beat, Khalid produced a performance usually reserved for those with decades of experience.

Khalid delved onto the stage opening with album title and hit American Teen. Crowds were ecstatic from the get go  and with much delight Khalid was more than pleased looking onto a large crowd. A large crowd who have chosen to have a fun night out singing and dancing along with the 19yr old rather than going out to see Drake at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Khalid was joined on stage with two cheerleader uniform clad dancers by his side. He performed hits such as Let Go, Location and 8TEEN.

Previous reviews state that Khalid is quite shy and awkward on stage but believe otherwise. Khalids‘ presence was one of an artist who has been performing for numerous years. Can I call his moves groovy? Is that hip for a millennial? Well groovy he was. We weren’t at a Flo Rida show but everyone was getting low low low thats for sure. Khalid tended to squat more than stand so for the peeps in the back we relied more upon the technographics being displayed behind him. The set up was fantastic; with Khalid and dancers below and the band elevated within the screens behind. The show felt as though we were submerged in an arena rather than an open field. Well done Khalid and crew.

I must admit during times of the set you could hear more from that chattering of the crowd, and the cleaners scurrying through rather than Khalid up on stage, but hey we were outdoors – maybe the wind was directing the sounds to other side of the field; who knows.

The night was coming to a close and Khalid jokingly announced to the crowd that he was sorry for being a dickhead for only releasing one album so far. Jokes aside, the one hour long set was short but action packed.

The final song of the evening was no other than hit single “Young, Dumb and Broke”. If you believed crowds were loud previously; the screams and chants within the final song were deathening. Confetti showered the outdoor field coming somewhat glued to your body with the resining rain which was in effect for the whole duration of the night. Heck, I mean its not a Eatons Hill show if there isn’t a weather event occurring on the night.

The story of Khalid is just heating up. Khalid is going places; but quite frankly you already knew that didn’t you?
