The time has come for only one of my favorite festivals, located on the beautiful campus of the Sydney College of Arts – St. Jerome’s Laneway! A campus of the Arts only makes sense to host one of the most dominated festivals that runs nationally and internationally. Laneway is like no other with its’ distinct campaign promoting for greater safety, a community feel, great vibes and some of best cutting edge music from Australian and international artists. To regular festival goers like myself, it’s one not to miss.

The lineup was jam packed with huge artists like The Internet, Anderson .Pakk & The Free Nationals, Mac DeMarco, Wolf Alice, Odesza, Bonobo, Amy Shark, Basenji and many more! Although it seems that Client Liaison disappeared off the lineup for Sydney?

I started my trip from Canberra to Sydney pretty late, however I made it just in time for The Internet, a band like no other that I refused to miss. Syd the lead singer, is so incredibly humble and her voice is too die for. Steve Lacy was rocking in neat red overalls playing guitar. Both Syd and Steve Lacy performed their solo projects and it was incredible. It was their record ‘Ego Death’ that made The Internet spiral their way to the top and I was so happy their set was mostly of this record.

Anderson .Pakk pulled through a huge crowd – although I was front row center, I found myself turning around because .Pakk kept the biggest smile on his face, whilst performing. Laneway definitely killed it with this booking, he is such a great asset to any festival. From his groovy tunes, to incredible talent on the drums, the performance by Anderson .Pakk was one I will never forget. Starting off the set strong with ‘Come Down’ right off the bat, ‘Glowed Up’ a collaboration with the ever so incredible producer, Kaytranada and ending with a bang with ‘Luh You’. .Pakk is such a talented musician, a man with great appreciation for hip-hop and humble as hell.

Basenji was rocking at the Red Bull Stage, hidden away in generously sized courtyard filled with awesome beats and great vibes! As a DJ myself, I’m always on the look out for new music and new tunes, so I knew I had to pay Basenji’s set for some inspiration.

Odesza during the sunset was quite magical. Starting off the set with 6 or so drummers with neon lights inside, resembling an American high school marching band, The duo started off their set with a banger ‘Say My Name’. The ‘band’ would re appear at different times of the set, but it was so damn cool. The crowd was mesmerized by the visuals but it for sure did not stop us from grooving.

And that was it for me! It was a packed festival with many stages and stalls to discover, but I know I’ll be back next year, Laneway never fails to impress. The strong sense of community with a great brand makes Laneway the greatest music festivals in Australia.
