LIAM GALLAGHER
“For What It’s Worth”
(Single Review)
.
.
Am I hearing right? Is this the frontman for a generation of disaffected Gen X’ers, who sneered, “Maybe I don’t really wanna know, how your garden grows” on Oasis’ 1994 Live Forever? Well it’s been a few drinks between pints since then and evidently it’s given Liam Gallagher time to reflect, offering up For What It’s Worth, a single that comes across as an act of contrition.
Gallagher’s voice is immediately identifiable but this time lacks his usual tone of petulance, and instead exudes the composure of a man who is acknowledging past wrongs, “I’m a dreamer by design and I know in time we’ll put this behind”. It’s a surprising insight from an artist who for the most part has been painted as a fighter warring against shadows. To compliment the vocal the tempo of the song takes it time, meandering in a completely unhurried way infused with classic Beatles elements.

An intriguing song that peaks the curiosity to what the forthcoming album, As You Were has in store. More rumination? Jittery, manic energy? For what it’s worth, Gallagher has done what he was meant to do, bring us back to the bar for another pint.
