Thirsty Thursday crept up fast this week!. I heard the ‘King of the Kids’, Lil Uzi Vert, was in town, performing tonight at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre. What better to kick of the weekend a night early than to catch the US millennial Hip Hop Star in action.

It’s early, the doors aren’t even open yet and there is a line as far as the eye can see. This young crowd are pumped, all waiting for their shot to get inside and get as close to their idol as they possibly can. Crazy to think Lil Uzi Vert has only really been on the scene since 2015 and yet has more than a billion streams and a mass of fans world wide.

The 23 year old has already collaborated with superstars such as Pharell Williams and performed with Ed Sheeran at the MTV VMA’s.

Alright so pretty cool resume, so what about the show?.

Walking into the venue I’m blown away by the participation of the audience as Melbourne’s own DJ Horizon hits the stage, spinning some of the best R&B and Hip Hop Party jams Australia has ever heard. His young age of 21 doesn’t hinder his energy and audience engagement. The mosh pit contains probably the most vibrant audience I have seen in many years. Beach balls and the haze of narcotics all in sight and the waves of fans lift the roof. Props to you DJ Horizon, the world awaits.

As opposed to live bands, theres no 15 minute changeovers to bring the energy back down. Instead its a simple change between DJ’s that takes no more than a couple of minutes. Its not long before the decibel levels rise as Lil Uzi Vert’s DJ is working the crowd, in anticipation of Lil Uzi Vert. Through a cloud of smoke he appears. Lil Uzi Vert moves around the stage and owns it. He brings the audience into the palm of his hand as he jumps down into the pit and onto the bar so everybody can get a piece of the star.

He bursts through his catalogue performing hit after hit from his early mixtape’s and his debut album, including the hit ‘XO Tour Life3’.

The audience is left more than satisfied and if this is a taste of what’s to come, we have a global superstar on our hands. All in all a successful first voyage down under.
