LOUIS TOMLINSON‘Just Like You’ (Single Review)

“I’m just like you, even though my problems look nothing like yours do. Yeah, I get sad too and when I’m down I need somebody to talk to. Yeah, I feel the same as you do. Same stress, same shit to go through. I’m just like you, if you only knew…”

Just Like You is the new, surprise track from British singer songwriter Louis Tomlinson. For a little while now, the Louis camp had been quiet but alas, he is back! Dropping a tweet on October 11th, Tomlinson not only talked about the new song but also his debut album as a solo artist.

.

So I wrote a song called Just Like You a few months ago. After a few conversations with the label I told them that I wanted to release it… My next single will be a bit later this year but I wanted to share this with you now. This is for you lot! #JustLikeYou… This is one of my favourites from the album. Conceptually I think it’s sums me up!… This song is for you :)”

.

Within 24 hours, the track hit #1 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Charts, debuting at #2 and #3 on the US and Canadian iTunes Charts. The official lyric video stands at a near 1.8 million views since its release on October 17th.

“It’s the guy from the one band, cigarette in my left hand. Whole world in my right hand, 25 and it’s all planned. Night out and it’s ten grand. Headlines that I can’t stand…”

The three-and-a-half-minute track is every bit down to Earth, and dare I say normal as it comes. The instrumental layer is stripped back with an urban electro-pop fused feel; unable to take away from the strength of the heavy, heartfelt lyrics but there more so for support. I think it’s so easy to forget that in the big, wide world that celebrities, musicians and bands are normal people too and Just Like You really drives that idea home.

“But you only get half of the story. The cash and the cars and the glory. No sleep and we party ‘til morning ‘cause nobody cares when you’re boring…”

It’s safe to say that Louis Tomlinson wants the world to see that it’s easy to get mixed up in the bright lights, the fame, the money and what the media says but at the end of the day he comes home like the rest of us and just wants peace and normality. He wants to be the same. The lyrics say it all…

“If I had it my way, pub lunch every Sunday, cheap beer and it’s okay. I wanna lay where she lays, I wanna stay in these days. Gonna smoke and it’s okay… Every heart breaks the same, every tear leaves a stain. Can’t I just be the same? Every heart breaks the same, every tear leaves a stain. Let me be the same…”

I’m loving the thought provoking simplicity Just Like You brings to the table; it’s not fancy but it speaks volumes about the true feelings of a normal kid turned popstar. Just Like You is definitely a perfect track for Louis Tomlinson’s debut solo album; the song is truly him in every form. I cannot wait for the next single or the album, bring it on!

Just Like You, Louis Tomlinson. Go check it out!
