American singer/rapper Post Malone is finally back on the R&B scene with his latest track rockstar featuring 21 Savage. In December 2016, the artist posted a video of himself in the studio playing the track and has since caused major traction on social media making it highly anticipated. He first gained major recognition in 2015 with his debut single White Inversion and has since has big hits from his debut album Stoney including Déjà Vu featuring Justin Bieber and Congratulations featuring Quavo.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed my first time listening to the track, as I wouldn’t consider myself a solid fan of Post Malone. There’s a certain aura about the instrumental and the structure of the song that makes you instantly glued to its melody. Already climbing to number one on the US iTunes Chart straight away upon its release, I would say the slick beat and guitar riff of the track has resonated greatly with many listeners. The smooth vocals are truly the icing on top that will be hard to keep you away from the repeat button.

The lyrics of the track give audiences a vivid image of the lavish lifestyles that Post Malone and 21 Savage live. The track uses lines that refer to famous events within pop culture that both the artists use to describe their behaviour. Lyrics such as “the Montage” and “the Hills” are all in relation to the luxuries of living the Beverly Hills dream. Although the lyrics have a bit of a show off tendency to them, Post Malone surprisingly comes through as confident, not cocky. It’s definitely a feel good track that makes you believe you’re on the same level as these artists as you sing along to the fun and explicit lyrics (sorry mum).

This is the kind of track you need to lift yourself from a sad mood and remind everyone how fabulous you truly are. Singing along really does make you feel like you’re also living that rockstar life. Although this track gained immediate traction within the US, the Australian charts show an upraise in its performance and I can 100% predict now that everyone will be all over this fiery sound in no time. Post Malone has truly set himself up for an unimaginable potential second studio album.
