TAYLOR SWIFT

“Look What You Made Me Do”

(Single Review)

Taylor Swift

Who’s ready to witness world domination?

.

Have you ever felt like your reputation was dragging you down? Well Taylor Swift definitely has. Not only has she just pretty much destroyed any person that’s even spoken badly about her, she’s also broken world records once again. Taylor Swift rose to stardom in 2008 with her hit country single Love Story from her second debut album Fearless. Fast-forward almost a decade, the worldwide superstar ditched her country roots and traded them in to be on top of pop music with number one smash hit singles Shake It Off, Blank Space and Bad Blood all from her record breaking album 1989.

After receiving constant media exposure and criticism in 2016, the songstress went into hiding and shocked the world last week as she released a few clips on social media showing a snakes body slither. Fast forward a few days and the starlet dropped her latest single Look What You Made Me Do along with a release date of November 10 for her new studio album Reputation. Since the single drop, the song was streamed over 8 million times on its first day, the lyric video accumulated 19 million views on its first day and the music video was watched almost 40 million times on its first day, breaking worldwide first day records everywhere.

“But I got smarter, I got harder in a nick of time,

Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time”

.

So despite all the millions she’s probably made in about a solid weekend, is the song actually good? Let me break this down for you all. When I first listened to the song I was absolutely shocked. The suspenseful instrumental in the beginning has you intrigued within seconds and immediately makes you focus on every word she’s singing. As you almost reach the chorus, the beat drops and the track becomes extremely energetic as she repeats the song title in the chorus eight times which I’m sure will get stuck in your head. The production of the track is such a different turn for Taylor as it goes down an electropop dance path that we’ve never seen before.

.

.

Now, lets talk about these lyrics. It’s quite obvious that Taylor has used the song lyrics to retaliate to past issues with certain individuals that have given her a ‘bad reputation’. She touches on themes of power, revenge, self-identity and rebirth. The songstress basically sings about how past events and actions by other individuals had made her look a certain way that she believes was incorrect. Therefore, this song is her retaliation to her past as she tells her listeners that the old Taylor Swift is dead and that she’s been motivated to come back as dominant as ever.

“I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now,

Why? Oh, ‘cause she’s dead”

.

Another huge part of her comeback is the music video. If you watch the clip carefully, most scenes are an obvious dig to issues she’s had with other celebrities and ex lovers in the past including Calvin Harris, Tom Hiddleston, Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian and Kayne West. At the end of the clip, we see many past versions of Taylor where they all make fun of one another and quote famous lines that have been said previously within her career. Although her intention is to make a mockery of herself, she uses the music video to emphasise the fact that no matter how many times she gets knocked down, she will always come back on top stronger than ever, and boy did she do that.

Whether you like Taylor Swift or not, this track is going to be a hard one to stay away from because it’s practically blown up everywhere. I respect Taylor Swift as a musician and everything that she’s been able to accomplish, but I can’t lie and say that I don’t feel extremely powerful when I listen to this track. It’s the definition of a solid comeback and I’m sure this track will be hitting number one on charts worldwide within a week. If you didn’t know what savage meant, then you definitely will now after watching the music video which is just down below. All in all, I did not expect this, but neither did the rest of the world and that is why Taylor Swift is here to stay.

.

Need a fresh track that’s going to make you feel badass? Taylor Swift has got you covered.
