Looking for something fresh to plug your ears into? Meet TESHA.
TESHA (aka Neta Elias) has been making waves in the music scene, from gigging at SXSW Festival last year to getting coverage from Nylon Magazine. The Israel-born musician and producer first began making music from her mother’s living room piano. After the loss of both of her parents, she began teaching herself synth production and singing, using her dreams as inspiration for her songs.
She just debuted her very first EP Dreams Vol. 1 on the 30th of June which has been described as an introduction to a “floating, shadowy new sound”.

“I’m trying to catch them, it’s like a field of butterflies.”

The EP begins with Clever Moments, a song that builds from a single piano into a whole accumulation of foreign sounds. There’s a sense of longing for the past and hope as she sings, “I wanna break free.” By the end of the song, I could tell that TESHA has musical technique well beyond any new artist I’ve listened to.

“I free myself from the pain of yesterday.”

Dreams paints a picture through her echo-laden melodies and strong lyrics. As she sings, “I’m lending you a piece of my story”, I felt like I was in the same world as her. There’s something quite wise about her lyricism, demonstrating the incredibleness that young musicians like her aren’t getting enough credit for.

“You and I, we are a different kind of stars and our eyes seek a different moon rise.”

So Alive was my favourite track on the whole EP with the instrumentation and lyrics all melding into one beautiful soundscape. I could imagine this as a song to listen to in the car on the way home; good for taking long journeys.
The EP ends with the instrumental piece, To Be Continued… reminded me of Debussy which I could hear her influences of classical music. The melody sounded like water flowing just like the whole EP itself.
Dreams Vol. 1 visualizes TESHA’s eclectic taste in music which is what makes her songs so special.
