Vancouver-based quartet Written Years are synonymous with creating music of textures and layer. Since releasing their long-awaited self-titled debut album, the foursome, consisting of Wade Ouellet (vocals/guitar/keys), Alex Richardson (guitar/vocals), Brian Dyck (bass/synths) and Kane Enders (drums/percussion), have experienced their fair share of personal hardships that can be heard in the recording process of the new material.

The band will release their second album in Spring 2018, but brand new single Lost In You Now (released 8 December 2017) gives the listener an idea of what to expect from a band that infuses the best parts of rock with soul and integrity to create something that can only be described as the quintessential Written Years sound. It’s a demonstration of the fire that still burns inside the four musicians.

The track itself blends layered vocals with the faintest hint of EDM, but the strength of the track lies in the instrumentation of the drums, guitars, synths and keys that create quite something ethereal. The vocals are wispy and drawn out, which only adds to the charm of the track. It’s hard to compare the sound of the track to any other artist or band because it is something completely innovative and new. That isn’t to say that rock music hasn’t collided with elements of EDM in the past, but there is a subtlety that exists with Written Years here. The irony is that you can easily get lost listening to a track titled Lost In You Now. It is definitely not the self-described late left of field dance track as it was originally intended to be.
