Bloodline is the debut EP from Melbourne folk rockers, Run Rabbit Run. The first glimpse of the EP was single We Don’t Know, released in February this year, it’s a dark and emotive track that pulled the band away from their more traditional folk rock roots with heavily overdriven organ and reverb-soaked electric guitar. It was featuring in Tonedeaf, Au Review and The Music.

EP opener Into The Woods draws you in with a sweeping angelic choir. The song sets you floating and dreaming. It’s great opener to the EP as it sets the scene and brings a lot of the elements of the band together in one hit. It’s angelic, beautiful and magestic.

Sticks then kicks in is a upbeat bouncy folk song with plenty of twang and energy. You just can’t help but sing the “whoa oh’s” in the chorus, as the hammond organ takes you for a spin.

Focusing heavily on the subject of death, and religion; Tangled in symbolism, lead single Old Soul follows a man careening down a river, through rapids, and eventually out over the edge of a waterfall. “Old Soul begun its life in 2011 as a passing thought while feeling somewhat out of place and isolated within friendship groups. The remark ‘I’m an old soul caught in a young man’ was intended to express the struggle of being an introvert amongst a seemingly endless river of extroverts.” – Casey Martin

The EP title references lyrics from the EP’s closing track Lights; “I’m tied to my bloodline, it pulls and oh it confines.” The lyrics reflecting upon our connection to our past, of familial ties, and the apparent inability to ever gain true independence from our makers.

A more atmospheric display of the band’s music than that of their 2014/15 single releases, Bloodline emphasises the band’s more progressive elements, whilst still retaining some up tempo moments fans of their past work will appreciate. It’s released on Friday the 15th of September with a tour following in October.
