To celebrate the AMP-award winning mixtape Birds And The BEE9 (out now via Big Dada), Zambian-born, Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist Sampa The Great invites you to delve into The BBEE9 Experience where, for two nights only, she will bring her captivating 2017 release to life, transforming Sydney’s The Basement & Melbourne’s The Night Cat into a multi-sensory world of creative energy, taking place on Thursday April 19 & Saturday April 21 respectively.

Approaching Birds And The BEE9 in its entirety, the event will bring together special guests for one-off intimate performances and will gift audiences with an unforgettable evening of an aural and visual dream world. From projections, video, visual art and poetry, The BBEE9 Experience promises a rich multi-form realisation of the spiritually minded, healing messages and no-holds-barred social outlook conveyed throughout the refreshingly honest and awe-inspiring mixtape. Supporting Sampa on the night in Sydney, will be Kaiit and Dreaming Now – while in Melbourne, Milan Ring and Imbi Ring will open proceedings.

Both deeply intimate and outward looking, Birds And The BEE9, takes musical influences from Sampa’s African upbringing and lyrical content form her own experiences of hurt and pain. Working with a close circle of producers to help realise her musical vision – including Kwes Darko, Sensible J and Alejandro ‘JJ’ Abapo – the mixtape spans neo-soul to gospel and hip-hop, with Sampa shining as both a singer and MC.

Receiving acclaim from Clash, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, triple j support and landing coveted feature album spots across community radio stations across the board, it’s no wonder Sampa The Great was awarded with the AMP award for 2017.
