Continuing to taking experimental pop to new heights, Melbourne quartet The Harpoons today share their sensual new single “Pressure” premiered via UK culture title Notion Magazine and Triple R’s Double Bounce, along with the announcement of their hotly anticipated sophomore album Amaro – set for release, Friday April 13 via Caroline Australia.
Driven by lilting drums and the smoky voice of lead singer Bec Rigby, “Pressure” is that soul pop number that will suit any mood. The pulsating beat follows the intensity of Rigby’s vocals as she delivers resonating lows and soul-wrenching highs, backed by rich harmonies. On the concept of the track, Rigby explains, “Pressure drives our daily existence, in the air, the water, the wind, and the pressure that builds up between sexy people. Inspired by the deepest corners of sweaty but emptying dance floors, you know because your heart is pounding.”

“Pressure” follows a monumental 2017 for The Harpoons. After signing to one of the country’s largest independent labels, Caroline Australia and prestigious booking agencies Select Music and Primary Talent, the band released the ecstatic, disco-fused single “Do You Want My Love” premiering via Los Angeles radio giants KCRW, Australia’s Rolling Stone and UK tastemakers Clash Magazine. Their follow up “Reassurance” received paralleled success, quickly becoming a community radio favourite, with nods from Complex UK and BBC Radio 1. Each release is lifted from The Harpoon’s forthcoming record Amaro, slated to pack an even greater punch than 2014’s debut release Falling For You, which was hailed by Rolling Stone Australia as “a killer package of emotional RnB”.
The four-piece recently celebrated the release of “Pressure” with an epic East-coast tour, visiting Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge, Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel and Melbourne’s Howler across February and March.
The Harpoons’ second album Amaro marks further upward momentum in 2018. The Melbourne outfit continue to put their spin on both old and new waves of electronic dance music, and latest single “Pressure” is no exception.
