Fresh from bringing ‘Boys Off Work’ to crowds on the east coast with Grouplove, Sydney lovers of good times and great music – The Ruminaters – have now set their sights on the release of their new baby, album Number Two: Welcome to Flight S.U.N 91.

14 tracks, recorded at London’s RAK Studios with long time producer and comrade Rob Brinkmann, the new album from The Ruminaters has all the signs of a band with a thriving sense of creativity in full effect, as well as demonstrating the band’s confidence in their exploration of new sounds moving forward.

Listen closely and the narrative comes together. Each song represents a different passenger on a flight back to 1991. With the sun as a time machine, The Ruminaters ponder on the concept of going back in time. As the band ventured into sophomore record territory, they approached  Welcome to Flight S.U.N 91 with a different mindset; refining their process and writing separately before bringing their ideas to the studio.  “This is the first album we ever did demos for; we usually just go in how we’d play it live. We wrote separately on this album too, we’d go into our own home studio and work on parts alone instead of jamming like dickheads for hours on the same song, trying to work out parts all at once. It’s also the first time the album was done at once, not over mixed studios and different times of our lives. It has more of a together feeling, as opposed to our other releases.” Pencil, The Ruminaters.

While the end result of Welcome to Flight S.U.N 91 may feel more collective and unified, the strong appeal of the record comes in the featured album tracks not following any type of well-trodden indie or garage-loving terrain that may have been associated with The Ruminaters in the past. Diving deep into some wonderfully textured psychedelic soundscapes, Welcome to Flight S.U.N 91 also sees the band exploring vocal melody and direction keen ears will recognise from the 90’s and early 2000’s – music from both decades proving a large inspiration for the band.

Lead single ‘Boys Off Work’ provided fans with a clever little taste of what was to come from The Ruminaters, but as a brand new east coast tour beckons this March along with the release of Welcome to Flight S.U.N 91, it’s clear that the band is only just getting started.

‘Welcome to Flight: S.U.N 91’ set for release march 16th 2018.
