Praise for JACKSON CARROLL

“Contemplative and raw in its delivery – both elements of Carroll’s thriving artistry.”  GC LIVE

“Good voice on Jackson! But he doesn’t oversell it! That’s classy. Matt Corby and Jeff Buckley performing duets at the saloon in Westworld.”  Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe

1. A good night’s sleep:
Starting the list off strong. There’s really nothing better than waking up after a good night’s sleep and recognising that it was just tops. It starts your whole day off on a great note, and I need as much of it as I can get right now.

2. An interesting book:
Full disclosure, I don’t read as much as I used to. But a great book, or at least one with some interesting ideas, is among the best things you can own. Whether it’s Catch-22, How Music Works or The Dark Knight Returns. The classics, obviously.

3. Music:
No s**t. But I’m talking about music that makes you really feel something powerful. Nude (Radiohead), I Love You, Honeybear (Father John Misty), Lilac Wine (Jeff Buckley), if you needed a quick rundown of songs that have made me cry in my lifetime. And I’m never happier than when I’m performing.

4. A great movie or TV show:
The impact of a great movie, or even a single great episode of television can’t be overstated. Seeing something new, impressive, or otherwise fascinating on a screen can make you completely rewrite your understanding of how to express meaning, how to communicate thoughts and ideas and stories.

5. Weather that’s not too hot or cold:
We’re gonna enter peak old man mode here, but I’m a sucker for weather that’s not so cold that I have to wear winter clothes just to get around, but not so hot that I can’t wear winter clothes. Really, I just hate wearing shorts.

6. A hearty bowl of Spaghetti Bolognese:
This is both too specific and really relatable, but a cold night with a big warm bowl of some really good spaghetti just ties a night together in such a neat way. It’s deeply fulfilling in a very spiritual way.

7. A night out with good mates:
I can’t for the life of me remember ever having a truly bad night out. That’s not a testament to the nightclub scene in Sydney, but more about the friends I surround myself with. I could end up anywhere in the world, but as long as I have them, I couldn’t have a bad time.

8. Night drives:
Maybe it’s the joy of being 18 bleeding over into my 20’s, but there’s something so liberating about driving at night. I guess I’m still young enough that it still feels like an adventure to me. Plus I don’t have to worry about traffic, which is a really useful development.

9. Cuddling an animal:
I’m a sucker for a cuddle or a play with a pet. My cat is kinda indifferent me so that’s a bust, but I still wake him up from naps unfairly with cuddles and reaffirmations of how cute he is. My sister’s dog (Spector) is pretty much the greatest dog as well.

10. A cracking joke:
I’ve dedicated too much of my time to figuring out how to best deliver a joke. I’ve heard countless jokes in my time, which I’ve promptly forgotten. And any of my friends will tell you that I have a habit of dropping some hot garbage. But when a ripper of a joke lands, you feel unbeatable.

JACKSON CARROLL releases new single ‘HAPPYMAN’ from forthcoming EP NAME IT AFTER ME and announces Australian tour dates!

Returning to ring in the summer with vibrancy, Jackson Carroll unveils his new single, ‘Happyman’. It’s the perfect song to demonstrate Carroll’s versatility as a songwriter and performer. Known for injecting his music with an earthy richness and that pulls from a blues-influenced emotional centre, ‘Happyman’ puts Carroll in an up-tempo and shining songwriting space. Taken from his forthcoming EP Name It After Me, ‘Happyman’ is a great entry point for newcomers to his sound, while a great progression for longtime fans to get around.

The release of ‘Happyman’ and Name It After Me kicks off a significant chapter for Jackson’s touring career. Already an in-demand performer on the east coast, the release of the EP will have the young performer on the road right throughout the summer. Heralded by a single launch in Sydney and then a lucrative appearance at this year’s Australian Music Week, Jackson’s tour schedule is packed out into February.

Looking forward to the next few months on the road with ‘Happyman’ and Name It After Me, Jackson approaches this release of new music with confidence. “It is more of a song about hope than happiness. It’s about trying to get to a happy place, to become a happy person. It’s more about desire and looking for desire in your immediate surroundings, looking for desire in other people.” Jackson Carroll

Jackson’s growth as a songwriter is evident throughout the Name It After Me EP. Previous releases have seen him compared to the likes of Matt Corby and Jeff Buckley, while his flourished collection of music here shows that Jackson Carroll is embracing a creative identity all his own.
