The 2021 South Australian Music (SAM) Awards are once again celebrating the achievements of South Australian musicians, venues and industry workers across what’s been an increasingly difficult 12 months. Today, the SAM Awards reveal their nominees for this year’s multiple People’s Choice categories, along with the all-important venue and event details for the November ceremony.

Bridget Hustwaite, host of ‘Good Nights’ on triple j will host the 2021 event which will be held in a COVID-safe outdoor format on the evening of Thursday 18 November on the grounds of the Adelaide Gaol. Last year’s event was hosted in a similar outdoor format at the University of Adelaide’s UniBar, which was successful in not only providing safety for everyone involved but also gives attendees a chance to take advantage of a warmer climate, laidback energy and celebratory vibe.

Early-bird tickets for the 2021 SAM Awards are on sale now for $65 (plus booking fee) via Moshtix

The People’s Choice Awards nominees are also announced today, with a host of winners from last year including TOWNS, Wing Defence, and Motez, along with plenty of fresh faces including triple j Unearthed High winners George Alice and Teenage Joans – highlighting the exciting time South Australian music is currently experiencing at present. Voting is now open for the People’s Choice categories via themusic.com.au

As always, the SAM’s Industry and Major awards will be decided by a panel of 15 national and local judges who represent and work across various facets of the industry and are valued members of the overarching Australian music community, with finalists to be announced at a later date.

Excited to be once again hosted during Australian Music Month, the organisers of the SAM Awards are looking forward to celebrating with the South Australian music community, while looking forward to 2022. As a UNESCO City of Music, Adelaide has become a hub of creativity for musicians in recent years, with national and international attention being drawn to the number of artists who have been taking their art beyond SA, out to the world.

Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni congratulated all the nominees of the 2021 SA Music Awards and encouraged the local music sector to take the opportunity to celebrate their achievements in what has been another challenging year, due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Marshall Government is proud to support the SAM Awards and South Australia’s outstanding local music industry which makes such an important cultural and economic contribution to our state,” Minister Pisoni said.

Music SA Chair Anne Wiberg is proud of the SA music community in 2021 stating that “South Australian artists have, yet again, continued to produce incredible, world-class original music. I am so happy that the SA Music Awards enables us to celebrate not only those who create it but everyone who supports and works in the industry.”

Music SA General Manager Kim Roberts is thrilled that the SAM Awards are able to go ahead in 2021 despite recent COVID outbreak fears in South Australia. She states, “Despite yet another challenging year for our industry, there’s been some incredible new music and achievements from the SA music community over the past 12 months. South Australian artists need your support more than ever! Make sure to vote for your favourite artists!”

Earlybird tickets for the 2021 SAM Awards are available now via Moshtix for $65 (plus booking fee) which includes food and beverages throughout the evening supplied by Bits N Bites, Paella Bar, Pirate Life Brewing and Alpha Box and Dice. Capacity is limited, so get in early!
