2022 ARIA Week starts Monday!

BLAKSOUND, Flume, Ricochet Ball, ARIA Talks and more from the CBD to Western Sydney

ARIA today revealed the huge line up for the 10th annual ARIA Week, returning to Sydney from Monday, 14 November to celebrate the best of Australian music in the lead-up to its biggest night of the year, the 2022 ARIA Awards, on Thursday, 24 November broadcast live and free on Channel 9 and globally on YouTube.

Established in 2012, ARIA Week is an essential part of Ausmusic Month, presenting a range of programs and events designed to amplify Australian music. Over 10 jam-packed days of concerts, conversations, parties, workshops, a pop-up performance at Parliament House in Canberra and more, ARIA Week will provide opportunities for aspiring artists and industry professionals, celebrate our best established and up-and-coming talent, and facilitate important conversations to shape the future of Australian music.

This year, ARIA Week will be held across a range of communities from Casula to Canberra, making its way to Sydney’s Western Suburbs again to deliver three very special intensive workshops: Breaking Down The Beat with Setwun, Creative Minds presented by Support Act, and Sound Advice: Getting Played, providing attendees the skills to not only produce their own music but also get it heard.

For the first time BLAKSOUND presented by Digi Youth Arts, ARIA and PPCA will be part of ARIA Week. BLAKSOUND is a self-determined three-day Indigenous music conference and festival space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music that joins the program from Sunday, 20 November, kicking off with a launch party presented in collaboration with Koori Radio.

ARIA Talks is a selection of interesting, important and fun conversations taking place at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) at the EQ on Wednesday, 23 November. This year ARIA Talks will include: ‘The Right Note’ with the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Award nominees and Murray Cook (OG Red Wiggle); ‘Ahead of the referendum/Walk with us’ with Tanya Hosch; ‘How do you actually create change across a whole industry?’ with experienced change leaders from diverse corporate and sporting backgrounds; and an exciting session presented by PPCA: ‘Bigger than The Beatles: How not to make a record’ with John Watson, Anna Laverty, Robbie Buck and a very special guest artist who will look at the making of a sound recording through the lens of Peter Jackson’s iconic Get Back documentary.

ARIA Week will also include some invite-only events. On Monday, 21 November there will be a  Parliamentary pop-up Performance by Thelma Plum in Canberra presented in partnership with YouTube, as well as the ‘Hip Hop Event’ presented by ARIA and YouTube in Sydney. On Tuesday, 22 November, ARIA will host a  ‘Good Humans’ industry networking party.

At the close of ARIA Week, on Thursday, 24 November, we will celebrate the best of the best in homegrown music and show off our awesome Aussie talent across 27 categories at the 2022 ARIA Awards. Held at Sydney’s iconic live music venue, The Hordern Pavilion on Gadigal land, the 2022 ARIA Awards will be available to watch live and free at 7.30pm AEDT across Australia on Channel 9 and 9Now and streamed internationally on YouTube.

The full ARIA Week program is detailed here.

ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “ARIA Week is such an important lead-up to the  ARIA Awards celebration. It is a week where we pull the spotlight squarely on our industry – to learn, to celebrate diversity, joy and achievement, and to find a path through the challenges, together. It’s also great fun! We are particularly proud that this year’s ARIA Week includes a diverse range of voices and talent across many genres and gives Aussie music a real platform to be recognised as the true cultural and economic powerhouse it is. From Parliament House to The Dome in Sydney, and all across the nation for Ausmusic T-Shirt Day, ARIA Week in 2022 promises to be a true celebration for Australian music professionals, aspiring artists, and fans alike.”

NSW Minister for Tourism, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Minister for the Arts, and Minister for Regional Youth, The Hon. Ben Franklin MLC, said “The NSW Government is delighted to support our music industry and artists in engaging in these important ARIA Weekevents. This year’s program includes an abundance of community, industry, and global programs that are accessible for all. Events like these demonstrate the benefit of Government and industry partnering to create opportunities for our artists to get back on stage doing what they love and helping drive the recovery and growth of the NSW visitor economy.”

Marion Briand, Manager, Music Content Partnerships, YouTube Australia and New Zealand, said: “Ausmusic T-Shirt Day and ARIA Week are my favourite events of the year. We’re excited to continue to support Support Act for Ausmusic T-Shirt Day again this year, and to host a hip hop event for the community during ARIA Week. With hip hop being one of the fastest-growing genres in the world, the event will be a moment for YouTube to bring local artists together, to thank them, celebrate them and look to the future.”

The 2022 ARIA Awards and ARIA Week are proudly supported by the NSW Government through Destination NSW.

Tickets to the 2022 ARIA Awards event are now available to industry. Further information, and links for ticket purchases, can be found here.
