The international appeal of Tkay Maidza’s music takes yet another huge and incredibly cool step today with the release of her previously unreleased track ‘Glorious’, after it was exclusively premiered on one of the final episodes of the smash-hit HBO Series, Girls.

The song was given to the Girls to use on the soundtrack to its latest episode, which aired in the US on Sunday night, after the show’s creator Lena Dunham made a personal request to use Tkay’s music as a fan of the rising Adelaide rap star.

Girls reached out to my US label asking if we had any unreleased songs for their final ever season as Lena knew who I was and is apparently a fan of mine,” explains Tkay.

“They wanted something for a party scene and I have maybe 5-10 songs that are basically finished but didn’t make the cut for my album. We thought ‘Glorious’ could fit well, so we sent them that and the feedback was that Lena loved it and they wanted to use it. I love the show and it’s really crazy that they know me but I’m excited to see the track in there and for people to hear it.”

The new track sees Tkay fully embrace her big time pop persona, featuring floating melodic rhymes atop of trap beats, big vocal hooks and stadium-ready horns blasting through the chorus.

Contributing music to one of the most iconic TV shows of her generation is just another incredible milestone in the amazing and still amazingly fresh career of Maidza. It now stands alongside being nominated for an MTV EMA Award and Best International Act at the 2016 BET Awards; being named #15 in Rolling Stone USA’s Best Pop Albums of 2016 list; collaborating on Martin Solveig’s chart-climbing single ‘Do It Right’; and on top of all that releasing her critically acclaimed debut album TKAY in 2016 – which earned the coveted mantle of triple j Feature Album and spawned the huge tracks ‘Carry On (feat. Killer Mike)’, ‘Simulation’, ‘Tennies’ and ‘Follow Me.’ She was also recently the face of Nike’s Air Max campaign, which saw her take over billbaords across the country, which follows on from her appearances in international adverts by Apple, Samsung, Twitter, and Instagram – to name just a few.

Having established herself as a commanding and complex vocalist and lyricist, the songs across TKAY channeled a sense of defiance and attitude that could only be wielded by an artist blaring the kind of unique trail Maidza has already achieved in not only Australian hip hop but the Australian music industry as a whole.

She may have only just been a part of the end of Girls, but it’s safe to say things are only warming up for Tkay.

And after sold-out tours of Australia last year, she’s now poised to embark on a huge North American tour to perform headline club shows, as well as on festival bills like Governor’s Ball and Hangout, alongside the likes of Frank Ocean, Run The Jewels and Solange, across the States and Canada this May and June.
