Chase City Unveil Dynamic New Single ‘A-N-X-T’
“From synth minimalism, the snarling, disco-edged track grows. Clamoured vocals and a dominant, grinding rhythm recall early Bravery, but it’s the subtle play of duality that makes the group’s sonic shift a success”
Rolling Stone Australia
“Bringing an almost-Brit-pop style to indie dance, it harkens back to the days of Faker, old-school Hot Chip and The Bravey, and it’s dope.”

Following on from releasing a slew of standout singles, Tasmanian-based indie rock quintet, Chase City, have returned to unveil their latest cut ‘A-N-X-T’ – recorded and produced by ARIA-award winning Magoo AKA Lachlan Goold (Midnight Oil, Regurgitator, Powderfinger).
‘A-N-X-T’ showcases the bands ability to produce genre diverse hits, effortlessly blending dance-punk rhythms likened to Franz Ferdinand & Hot Hot Heat with angsty lyrics and punchy vocals likened to The Vines & The Hives.
Front man Tarik Stoneman describes the inspiration and story behind the song –
“We wrote A-N-X-T well over a year ago at a time when we were experimenting pretty heavily having grown tired of the indie pop sound that we had been pursuing for the two years prior. The band was listening to a lot of old Talking Heads & Bowie records along with really getting into the DFA (label) inspired dance-punk scene that was around in the early 2000’s. The song came together rather quickly in the studio and had a very natural feel to it. We didn’t over complicate it and kept it largely minimal. The lyrics have a political lean, reflecting on some of the attitudes and issues we face in society and are geared at the role and impact of media in our lives.”
Since taking out the triple j Unearthed 2013 Falls Festival competition, Chase City have garnered strong support from triple j, worldwide blogs and Spotify via numerous worldwide playlists. They’ve toured nationally seven times, sharing stages with Sticky Fingers, Dune Rats, Gang of Youths, Jinja Safari and Boo Seeka. Their recent January tour boasted multiple sold-out shows including Sydney, Melbourne and Byron Bay.
The group have also been working on their debut album (due July 3) and will be touring internationally throughout July and October to support the new release.
In the coming weeks, Chase City will reveal an accompanying music video and touring dates.
‘A-N-X-T’ will be released independently on Friday May 12th, available worldwide via Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and all other good digital retailers
