Project Description
Luke Heggie @ The Gold Digger 21/05/17 (Live Review)
Considering it was a wet, blustery Autumn night; the Gold Digger was bustling with people waiting to check out comedian Luke Heggie. While some there may have heard of him before, there were also plenty that hadn’t and were looking forward to seeing what he would bring to the world of comedy.
At first glance, Luke Heggie appears to be your typical blue collar worker – a man’s man, if you will. However, once he gets into his routine, you start to see the irony surrounding him and you soon realise that nothing is safe.
If you want a comedy show that is politically correct, doesn’t offend and is good, clean humour….then don’t go and see Heggie. He attacks everyone from entitled dog owners to cyclists with their ‘reverse high heels’ to TV chefs to mothers and their Jon Benet offspring.
There were some moments of uncomfortable laughter – you know the kind….where you find something inappropriately funny but today’s society dictates that you are a bad person if you laugh out loud (or indeed, even joke about it). Some examples include: what happens to you if you have an unusual name like Jamien, Phoenix….Tomthany; your garden variety chair-sniffers and what happens if you mow a toad without ensuring you have the catcher on the lawn-mower.
So if you love your comedy sprinkled with dark humour, a splash of ‘milk’ that does NOT come from something that has nipples and delivered to you from someone who will not pull his punches then Luke Heggie is definitely your man.
Of course, if you are the type that loves to give comedians unsolicited advice via the internet over a 3 minute appearance on a certain show about rugby….then maybe you should go check out ‘Fork-Lift Tony’ instead and leave everyone else to laugh with someone that is actually funny, well spoken and intelligent.
