OUT TODAY ON FUTURE CLASSIC
Highly acclaimed songwriting duo Flight Facilities return today with their incredible new single and video, “Arty Boy” with Emma Louise. Released via Future Classic, “Arty Boy” confirms the first new music since their gold certified, twice ARIA-nominated debut LP Down To Earth, and subsequent ARIA-awarded album Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Sporting the iconic, nostalgic nature of yesteryear pop “Arty Boy” is a dance floor filler. It’s charming instrumentals are met with the beautiful vocals from Brisbane singer/songwriter and one of Flight Facilities’ frequent collaborators, Emma Louise. The duo (Jimmy Lyell and Hugo Gruzman) also invited German collective Jünglinge film to direct the song’s visuals, with a documentary-led insight into the fascinating, forgotten world of Irani-German couple Shirin & Nasser. Friends of Arnold Schwarzenegger, the elderly couple walk us through their temple of memories dedicated to sculpted bodies, glamour and bizarre 80s environments.
The bespoke “Arty Boy” artwork arrives from Vogue recognised Danish artist, Christiane Spangsberg. Following a sold-out exhibition in Sydney earlier this year, Spangsberg presents a chic visual statement for Flight Facilities’ newest offering. Alongside Vogue, Spansberg’s work has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar and Unconditional Magazine.
Since emerging with the timeless global summer anthem “Crave You”, Flight Facilities have held the formula for feel-good soundtracks that make people want to dance. The pair have risen to international fame with cult hits such as “Clair De Lune”, “Down To Earth” and “Sunshine” – each amassing millions of online streams. Their debut LP Down To Earth hosted an impressive list of guest artists including Kylie Minogue, Emma Louise, Reggie Watts, Owl Eyes, Bishop Nehru, Micky Green and Giselle.
When it comes to touring, the pair have attained plenty of frequent flyer miles, performing to a global audience multiple times over with their much-loved catalogue. Alongside their own headline shows, the duo have played headline slots at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals like Coachella in LA, Fuji Rock in Japan and Bestival in the UK.
Last year, we welcomed them home to appear alongside the acclaimed, 50-piece Sydney Symphony Orchestra in the sold-out Domain for the Red Bull Music Academy Weekender Sydney. The show followed in the footsteps of their one-off sold-out 2015 show with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and was a night remembered by all.
“Arty Boy” is instant vindication. Once again Flight Facilities’ seamless production has preceded them with a single that will no doubt be as infinite as any other in their stunning archive.
