SEVDALIZA
DEBUT
AUSTRALIAN TOUR 2018
.
“ [Sevdaliza has] an irrepressible drive to ride the razor’s edge, to go places the world isn’t necessarily ready or willing to explore… a provocateur with a sense of global mission” – Pitchfork“…sounds like minimalist composer La Monte Young slow-jamming with Björk in low lighting.” – NPR
“…regal, vaporous tunes about individuality, love, and disconnection” – The Fader
.Fans of fka twigs and Bjork are likely to be drawn to Sevdaliza‘s individualism, her sparse yet weighty soundscapes, raw restrained power, and incredible visuals. She’s been a goddess in our eyes here @ Mellum for a long time so we are absolutely thrilled to be bringing her to Australia for the first time in conjunction with Paradise, i-D, FBi and Collarts. The tour follows the release of her debut LP ISON in April this year via her own label Twisted Elegance.
With Sevdaliza‘s US live debut heralded as a singularly phenomenal experience (“we weren’t ready for what was about to happen. No one came prepared to pick their jaws up off the floor” – Enclave LA), Sevdaliza‘s is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Australian debuts of 2018.
.
.
Announced as part of the Sugar Mountain and Faux Mo lineups recently, during her Australian debut the autodidactic artist will also perform two headline shows – one at Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory and at Brisbane’s Woolly Mammoth, with supports TBA.
A multi-platform artist, Sevdaliza releases perilously charged audiovisual experiences, exploring minimalist trip-hop and industrial RnB through concepts of past lives, perception of emotion and the whole self. Influenced by great novelists in her writing, Sevdaliza creates for larger purposes than notoriety as evidenced by the untrumpeted release of her single Bebin, a track written in Farsi in response to the US travel ban – with all profits going to “victims of racial exclusion”.
.
.
With the ability to craft visuals every bit as arresting as her atmospheric, moody RnB, Sevdaliza’s enthralling videos for Human & That Other Girl have together clocked over 12 million views. Her body of work has earned her fans at The Fader, Paper Magazine, FACT Magazine, BBC and Dazed Digital (Dazed 100), and also in peers like A$AP Ferg, who features on her menacing single That Damaged Girl; she’s toured it around the world including sold-out headline shows in Europe & the USA.
Sevdaliza‘s latest single Mad Woman (from her short film The Formula, in which she starred/directed/produced), released through the Adult Swim Singles Club, has enjoyed airplay with triple j’s Richard Kingsmill, Double J and more.
