You’ve got just a few weeks left to, as they say,
‘VOTE NOW‘ in triple j’s Hottest 100.
If you’re still struggling to commit to just 10 songs for your ballot (or need help filling it up), take a cue from some of the big names in with a chance to feature in this year’s countdown.
After hitting up Gang of Youths, Amy Shark, Dune Rats, and Peking Duk for their picks, we’ve bundled up more artists to share their ballot papers with you and offer some #votespiration in the process.
Between giving plugs to HAIM, Gordi, and St. Vincent, Alex Lahey has pegged Ball Park Music’s ‘Exactly How You Are’ as her top song of 2017. “It’s a beautifully simple tune that so openly says one of the things that at times is the hardest to say: I love you. …I’m putting my money on their upcoming record to be a massive vibe.”
.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . AMNplify EHKendrick Lamar appears to be a very popular choice this year, and that’s definitely the case for ODESZA, who settled on ‘ELEMENT.’ as “a perfect example of how Kendrick can change up his flow five times in a song but it’ll still feel cohesive… He’s so revolutionary and it’s really cool to live in a time where Kendrick Lamar makes music.”
ODESZA also found room in their Top 10 for Aussies like Hayden James and Willaris K. Another homegrown artist – Perth’s Psychedelic Porn Crumpets – made a surprise appearance in Royal Blood’s votes alongside blockbuster acts like The Killers, Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age, who Royal Blood have been on the road with. “
Melbourne mosh lords Ocean Grove have got an eclectic mix, including tracks from mates Northlane and Running Touch to Gorillaz and Future but their #1 pump-up tune was Stormzy’s ‘Big For Your Boots’. “This track was, is, and always will be HUGE. Such a perfect marriage of fast paced grime with a catchy chorus that sinks its hooks in.”
Sløtface chucked votes towards Vince Staples, Tyler, The Creator, Frank Ocean, SZA, and Sylvan Esso. But the Norwegian punks’ top slot goes to “band of the year” Big Thief. “I sang them at soundcheck, wrote music inspired by them, and listened a LOT on tour. The way they mix amazing stories with intricate yet catchy guitars, especially in ‘Mythological Beauty’, made us fall completely for them.”
Unearthed High alumni Tia Gostelow reserved her Hottest 100 love for an all-Aussie mix, including Mallrat, Golden Vessel, Greta Stanely, and Maddy Jane. However, she made room at the top for upcoming Laneway act Billie Eilish. “I had her EP on repeat for almost two months and if I could vote for all eight songs in my Hottest 100 I would! ‘watch’ is deffs one of my faves and she is a genius!
