BLOCK PARTY: a festival inside Laneway Festival

Red Bull Music and I OH YOU are excited to announce a brand new addition to the 2018 Laneway Festival line-up, BLOCK PARTY.
BLOCK PARTY will be a wild street party held inside Laneway Festival at the Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle events. The concept is a homage to the very first Laneway parties that were spontaneously held out the back of Melbourne’s Caledonian Lane, circa 2004. This is Laneway Festival going back to basics.
Red Bull, Laneway and I OH YOU have a long lasting history of collaborating to present festival stages, artist showcases, events and initiatives that celebrate music, its culture and the transformative minds behind it. BLOCK PARTY is the newest concept from these music heavyweights, which will feature heaving sets from some of the finest up-and-coming electronic artists, hip-hop acts and DJs.

Laneway co-founder, Danny Rogers says: “There was such a creative, magic feeling at the original Laneway Festivals. I think it was because of the spontaneity they had. I wanted to recreate that same feeling at the 2018 event and this idea just made total sense. We booked the line-up over three days and it came together perfectly. I was already very excited for this year’s Laneway, but BLOCK PARTY turns things up to a whole new level.”
I OH YOU’s Johann Ponniah says: “We’re hyped to be involved in bringing BLOCK PARTY to Laneway Festival 2018, alongside our friends at Red Bull Music. As people who grew up attending the festival from a young age, it feels surreal to think that we are now going to be part of an event that has given so many of our favourite artists their first Australian festival slots.
I OH YOU was spawned through a series of house parties that were thrown in my share house a few years back…I’m not exactly sure how we ended up here but in many ways it feels like BLOCK PARTY is going to capture the same energy that those initial parties had. These line ups have been curated to shine a light on some of our favourite artists around at the moment and specifically ones that we feel carry a very unique energy through their music or track selection…to have them all on this stage just feels perfect!”
