The Song
Don Dale is the first release from the forthcoming Littles album. It is based on the constant negligence, mismanagement and mistreatment of people by regulators and policy makers. There has been a deluge of systemic abuses uncovered by inquests and reports. There are only ever limited consequences for those involved and heartbreakingly they result in limited change for those affected. The Northern Territory’s treatment of youth offenders in centres like Don Dale is an example. Racist, poorly trained prison guards treat inmates like dogs. They are kept in awful conditions that don’t nurture anything closely resembling rehabilitation.
This song is an attempt at empathising with kids in places like that. At the same the band offers a clear acknowledgment that they could never know the true horrors faced by the human beings in facilities like this.

The Band
The Pretty Littles are a four piece rock and roll band from Melbourne that have been releasing music since 2011 and playing music since 2008. There is 100% nothing closely resembling new musical ground being broken in this band. That said, the last album did better than expected and their song Pride got some high rotation loving and generally everything band related improved. There were some nice supports and festivals and rather than people in venues outside of Victoria, there were some. After many years slogging, it felt like some light but welcome respite.

The Record
Skeleton Run will be out mid-year. It was recorded with friend Greg Rietwyk who plays guitar in Press Club. It was recorded live over a week in November 2017 at Woodstock Studios in Balaclava. Musically they reckon the album is ‘pretty heavy’. Lyrically Jack says he was ‘trying to sing about himself less’.
