Today, Vera Blue has unveiled a killer new version of her single Lady Powers featuring Atlanta’s hip hop maverick Kodie Shane. Lifted from Lady Powers | Power Ladies Remix EP – out Friday April 13th – the EP also features 4 additional interpretations of Lady Powers by all-female producers TOKiMONSTA, Maya Jane Coles, Alice Ivy and Maria Marcus. We’re also thrilled to announce that new shows have been added to the Lady Powers Tour following Melbourne and Brisbane first shows selling out in record time.

Adding new textures and life into single ‘Lady Powers’, Vera Blue tapped some of the most exciting local and international talent to take on the Perennial album track. The dreamy production from local Alice Ivy, the lush additions from Californian TOKiMONSTA, the deep house meets disco vibes from Maria Marcus to the after-party-3am dubstep mix by award-winning Maya Jane Coles all compliment the Lady Powers (Feat. Kodie Shane) single on the 6-track EP.

Vera Blue explains,
“Lady Powers is about not having to use your sexuality to be respected as a woman and to be able to feel comfortable in your own skin without having to change for someone while knowing who you are, your worth and your strength. It’s hard sometimes, especially when you feel vulnerable. You can question who you are to try and suit the desires of another resulting in a loss of dignity and self respect.
My friends empower and inspire me, giving me security and confidence to feel strong and worthy. As women we all have lady powers, but we shouldn’t have to use them to feel wanted or respected. We need to respect ourselves. In doing that, we have true lady powers other than just our bodies.”
One of Atlanta’s freshest, fiercest, and fieriest voices, Kodie Shane offers a fresh take on Hip Hop, with tightly-wound rhymes, clever lyrics and ear-worm melodies over buoyant, genre-blurring beats that have become her calling card. She has garnered praise from The Fader, Pitchfork, Complex, Noisey, Paper, Nylon and more.
Similar thoughts about ‘Lady Powers’ are reflected by 19-year-old Kodie who says,
“feminism to me, is nothing more and nothing less than the belief in equality for women. I personally feel a responsibility to demonstrate to that we girls have the Power to not only gain equality for women but all sectors of society.
I’m super excited to be a part of Vera Blue’s ‘Lady Powers’ because it hits home with me. I feel that so many girls in my generation don’t quite understand their power and I wake up every day hoping to shed light on how far Being You and using your God given power can take you!”
Having been reviewed by Liam Gallagher for his Weekly Music Corner and chosen numerous times by world renowned choreographer Brian Friedman for his dance class performances, ‘Lady Powers’ has already received international attention.
The Perennial album (released in July 2017) debuted #6 on the ARIA Album Chart and amassed a GOLD ARIA single with ‘Hold’, a triple j Album of the Year nomination, a Top 10 triple j Listeners Album of 2018, and an ARIA Award Nomination for Best Pop Release. In total, Vera Blue’s music has been streamed over 80 million times from singles such as ‘Hold’, ‘Mended’, ‘Regular Touch’, ‘Private’ and ‘Settle’. Internationally, Vera Blue performed her first sold out headline shows in the UK, Europe and US in 2017 with the likes of Paper Magazine claiming the Sydney artist is “…undoubtedly on the path to world domination.”
The start of 2018 has seen Vera Blue nominated for APRA Song Of the Year for her single ‘Mended’ and two appearances on the triple j Hottest 100; coming in at #15 with ‘Regular Touch’ and #29 with ‘Mended’. (‘Lady Powers’ and ‘Private’ both charted in the top 200, appearing #118 and #158, respectively).
‘Lady Powers’ is supported by headline shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Vera Blue will also be performing songs from her Perennial album at the Groovin’ The Moo National Festival.
