To coincide with the release of ‘Walking In Your Sleep’ – the final single off their critically acclaimed third LP Punchbuzz , psychedelic-folk-dreamers Husky announce a string of intimate shows at iconic rock venues around the country.

Winning hearts globally and claiming Double J’s coveted feature album locally in the week of its release, Punchbuzz was recorded and produced by Holy Holy’s Matt Redlich in his single room Abbotsford studio.

Reminiscent of the world created by Texan folk-rockers Midlake and song writer/guitar hero Jonathan Wilson, the psychedelic-folk opening of ‘Walking In Your Sleep’ drives hard, with a guitar riff that gives off big Fleetwood Mac feels. The lush, dreamy keys and 70’s folk synth soundscapes carry Husky Gawenda’s signature delicate voice as he sings poetically about a distant time and place where Poseidon (God of the Sea) and Orion (a hunter changed into a star constellation at his death) are waiting. A steady drumbeat and pulsing bass keep us safely anchored before we’re carried off into the clouds and the waves, in this mystical storm of a song.

In Gawenda’s own words Walking in Your Sleep is a song I wrote during a period of intense dreaming brought on by the meticulous recording of my dreams. I became obsessed with the possibilities of the dream realm – lucid dreaming, self-exploration, unlocking the unconscious – and how that would effect my waking life and perhaps more so, my writing. The more I slipped in and out of this dream realm, the less I knew the difference between dream and reality and the more they mirrored each other. If I listen back to the song now, I hear an exploration of longing that in my waking life I was trying to escape, but was wrestling with every night in my sleep.”

“We shaped much of the sonic palette for the song and stumbled upon sounds and textures that were surprising to us,” explains Gideon Priess, Gawenda’s cousin and other half of the accomplished duo. “ The result is a tip of the hat to some of our favourite recording artists from the 70’s like The Doors, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan and Pink Floyd.”

With their first single off Punchbuzz , ‘Late Night Store’, clocking up over 4 million streams on Spotify, the ARIA nominated band and winners of the 2014 Vanda and Young Songwriting competition spent much of 2017 touring globally. Their extensive run of tour dates included a sold-out Corner Hotel show in Melbourne, along with sold-out performances in the Netherlands, London and Germany.

The band recently returned to Australia to play a string of Summer festivals and will follow up with local fans in April as they take their psychedelic indie-rock around the country, before heading back to Europe for a Summer festival run in July.

“We wanted to take some of the new sounds we’ve been working with to the heart of the Australian rock scene and get back to a real and raw connection with our fans,” says Priess.

Don’t miss an intimate and raw performance by Husky at gritty, favored local haunts this April. With a whole lot of buzz around Husky’s well-honed and immersive live show – tickets will sell fast.
