Mona Foma has once again been nominated for the Helpmann Awards for Best Contemporary Music Festival. Mona’s summer festival of music and art previously won the award in 2017 and 2012.
Gotye’s 2018 Mona Foma performance has been nominated for Best Australian Contemporary Concert. Mona Foma won this award in 2016 for Kate Miller-Heidke’s collaboration with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
Mona Foma’s curator, Brian Ritchie, has also been recognised for his work on the Gold Coast’s Bleach* Festival. Brian is nominated for Best Music Direction for Spirit of Churaki.
“The Helpmann Awards are a significant nod of acclaim from peers in the entertainment and performance world. Live music and performance is integral to Mona. To be nominated from amongst dozens of great Aussie festivals is an honour. ” Brian Ritchie, Curator, Mona Foma, said.
“This is the fourth time in the last decade that that Mona Foma has been nominated for Best Contemporary Music Festival.
“This year’s Mona Foma included our first expansion into Launceston, so to be recognised with a Helpmann nomination is a matter for jubilation. It was at Gotye’s personal request that his tribute to Jean-Jacques Perrey had its Australian debut in Launceston. Looks like he knew what he was doing. His concert at the Albert Hall was intimate, moving and ethereal.”
The awards will be announced on 15 July (SYD) and 16 July (MELB).
