Today PLTS return with their thundering new single ‘Maelstrom’, which they will support throughout July with three intimate shows along the east coast, including Byron Bay , Sydney , and Brisbane . ‘Maelstrom’ shows a more vulnerable side to the beloved Byron Bay trio, whilst still containing the key PLTS ingredients of an explosive chorus and lush production.
“Writing this track proved the most challenging process we’ve navigated as a group to date, this shines through in a strong theme of Melancholy,” the band explain.
“We chose to focus on a water theme, it’s such as significant theme in our personal lives and also is a great representation of the unpredictable nature and challenges in navigating the creation of music and in particular, this track. It’s a high-energy song and we can’t wait to convert that energy in to the live space. Delve beneath the surface and see things from the other side. Let the Maelstrom pull you in.”
PLTS have proved time and time again that their partnership with producer JP Fung is a fruitful one, having again teamed up with the producer on this track with additional production by Matt Redlich (Ball Park Music, Holy Holy). ‘Maelstrom’ was mastered by Joe LaPorta at Sterling Sound.

PLTS (pronounced pilots) are an indie rock band hailing from Byron Bay, Australia. Having worked with JP Fung (Birds of Tokyo, Art VS Science, Josh Pyke) and Nick Didia (Powderfinger, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen) to produce their take on energetic indie-rock, PLTS have quickly cemented their status through powerful, anthemic song writing.
Released independently, their small but dynamic catalogue has clocked up over 3 million streams online, in turn attracting a loyal following both locally and across the country. Coupled with support from Triple J, the band entered into the live space supporting the likes of The Jezabels, Hands Like Houses, and The Amity Affliction, as well as joining the lineup of tastemaker festival Splendour In The Grass.
Weaving warm melodies over strong and stirring guitar lines, PLTS are converting new friends and fans as they turn studio creations into energetic, nostalgic anthems. 2018 sees the band expand their discography once again with the release of their latest offering ‘Maelstrom’.
